Any help for a newbie attending April's game?

Hi everyone,

Some of you may know me in character as Lunetta, the Loyalty priestess from The League. My partner Jak has heard me going on and on and on about Empire since September and is intending to accompany me in April. He’ll no doubt be on here soon to talk about his concept more fully, but the overarching idea is a Highguard physick with limited artisan capabilities. Not being in Highguard myself, I don’t know much of how the Chapters work, but I know they are important to Highguard as a nation, so I wondered if anyone might be willing to potentially take a newbie under their wing in April? I know some people recommend finding a group in-game, but personally I found having a group to go to at the very beginning was REALLY helpful and a nice foundation for me to start building confidence in-character on.

Thanks!

Josée

I agree (though some will not) that having a group to start with is a big help. I expect you will get lots of replies from people trying to recruit for their chapter. There have been a few people show-up in Highguard as lone characters but they tend to attach themselves to chapters pretty fast. The Chapters are the power-centres in the nation - so given that the PC’s in Anvil are the important people in The Empire - it makes sense for the Highborn representatives in Anvil to be chapter representatives. Though a lone character could be the lone representative of a chapter.

Anyway… We (The Shattered Tower) are open to new recruits:
“Group Concept: A mainly Unconquered unit, the survivors of High Chalcis, the Shattered Tower are dedicated to rooting and thwarting the ruinous machinations of the Eternals, by any means necessary. Resettled in Bastion, we will retake out homeland!
Typical characters will include: Unconquered, Priests, Apothecaries, Monster Hunters, Lineaged, Inquisitors, Conspiracy Nuts, Outsiders and misfits who are nonetheless devoted to their Chapter and mission”

We have welcomed a number of new players/characters into the unit (both new LARPers and characters we have adopted IC at events).

Hello Josée,

Everything MattD wrote is correct. The only thing I would add / stress is that it is entirely possible to play a single PC from their own Chapter and then get “adopted” in Anvil by a larger Chapter for social / battle purposes - whilst still retaining their own Chapter identity and backstory. Jak could even arrange before April which group to fall in with, if he wants.

Mainly because of our heavy backstory and Draughir focus, the Suns of Couros Chapter (the one I belong to as Brother Jared, Cardinal of Loyalty) approaches recruitment through “IC if we don’t know you OC” but that hasn’t stopped us picking a couple of people brave enough to hang out IC with the creepy draughir at the back of the camp. They had their own chapter and backstory but over time they ended up joining us fully - all IC.

That is the interesting thing about Chapters - they are ideological / philosophical groups that members join and leave at their own volition. It isn’t chaos and shifting memberships at each event (come on we’re Highguard, not the Conclave) but the scope and flexibility is there - Jak can use it to find a group that fits naturally IC and OC over time at events.

In any case I’m happy to chat with Jak to answer any questions he has in general for Highguard or specifically for Highguard priests, Magisters or our chapter.

Gideon aka Chris, big tall fellow with the green and white did exactly this. Became friends with Cantiarch’s Hold, fights with us, socialises with us and still gets to be in a chapter of one. Well now he is in a chapter of 2, but he was technically alone for the whole Empire year.

Hello everyone!

Thank you for your very helpful responses; I am Jak ‘the newbee’ in question. I have been given feedback from Josée of what’s going on so I’ve been able to develop a few more ideas about where I might be able to take my character! I will let everyone know whereabouts I go with it as and when my brain decides to tell me… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again, I look forward to joining you next game!
