Hi everyone. I saw videos on YouTube of people describing their experiences in Empire and LARPing in general, and it awakened an excitement in me I hadn't felt in years. I've shown Empire to another friend of mine, and he and I immediately fell in love with the world of Empire. Sadly, we won't be joining in for at least a year since we're Americans and a flight ticket to the UK can be costly, but by god we're gonna do it.
We decided to channel our new excitement for the game into our characters and costumes. We both wanna join Wintermark, and I in particular absolutely love the Suaq traditions. I've seen the websites for buying leather on the Empire wiki, but I can't really find any places for pieces of fur for a Suaq coat. Any suggestions?
Also, I read on the wiki that the Suaq look is inspired partly by Inuit styles, and being kinda outdoorsy they'd probably be using weapons that double as tools. My character is gonna be a Suaq hunter/herder named Taneli (apparently Finnish for Daniel, my actual name), so I was thinking he'd use something like a fishing spear. The Inuit have a pronged fishing spear called a kakivak:
if I were to make a foam replica of a kakivak, do you think it'd fit into the feel of Wintermark and the Empire as a whole? I'm also working on making a prop ulu, which is basically an omnipurpose knife.
It's gonna be very hard getting heavy leather and furs for our stuff, as we're in college in New Orleans and we originally lived in Miami, but we love the Wintermark style too much to quit.
Edit: also, from what I understand about UK weather, it can be sporadic; very hot, cold, sunny and rainy in one day. What do you suggest for Suaq summer wear?
