If you are a Wintermarker, then I invite you to come and have a look round my hall, were called Wyvern’s Watch we’re a group of beast slayers. Like most Wintermark halls we tend to recruit people in the field after we’ve met them in person, that way you can be sure that we’re the hall you really want to join and so you don’t have any regrets. We have four non-UK based members already, so irregular attendance is not a problem for us. If you’re attending E4 we shouldn’t be hard to find as we’ll be speaking at the moot. If it’s next year your attending, then just ask around for Wyvern’s Watch or my character Osfrid.
Whilst we’re not fussed about people having spectacular hard skills. We would definitely be interested in seeing you if you have combat experience as our Thane has some considerable military ambitions. A small note for combat is that people in the Empire system tend to prefer a theatrical style of combat over a fenceing, quick touch style, not everyone though and it isn’t enforced. There is a one-second damage rule however you might want to be aware of if you fight quick touch. See more info about it at: https://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/empire-wiki/Combat
We will have an IC area set up where people can come over and have a chat it’s very open (don’t worry about crashing anything or being awkward just come over), you can come and speak to us and chill in our area you don’t have to join, were just trying to be accessible to new players.
It goes without saying that if you get there and feel daunted or lost at empire I’m making it part of my characters goals as a stormcrow to guide those who are “new to anvil”, whether it be finding that person you want to speak to, getting involved with those people or just a bit of general info. There are also the egregors who are PD’s official versions of the above, though they can sometimes be hard to find because they have a busy job.
One thing to note about Wintermark is after the moot on Friday we all sometimes look very busy and unapproachable however that’s usually just because everyone is excited around time in, were all actually really friendly, my advice is just go up to people and talk about what you want to talk about. One thing I would recommend is to read the winds of war and fortune, thoroughly, for the event, you’re attending and perhaps the ones from before the event you’re attending. These tend to be what dominates most the convo at an event, and if you hear people talking about something you missed then ask them to explain.
Hope this helps, if you want any more info then just give me a PM.
