New players - looking for advice and feedback on character concepts

I probably should have clarified a bit and said what the difference between offensive and regular spells. I didn’t talk about combat spells while talking about swift casting because I thought it was a given that they would be done quickly otherwise they would probably be very hard to use, but next time I will know not to do that.

I didn’t know that purify worked more efficiently if you swift cast it.

With crystal mana, I personally believe it is better for rituals than as personal mana. I never said it had to be for rituals. Ritualists are always looking for more mana and the more mana they have, the better the rituals they can perform, some of them will have much more power than that battle mage. I see it as an investment and the use of it as personal mana to only be considered in dire situations.

Just a brief clarification on speaking in Conclave - the different groups are called Orders, and you can only speak if you are recognised by the Grandmaster of one of these Orders. Otherwise it’d be even lengthier than it already is!

Also there is a list of the declarations that are due to be discussed in that evening’s session in the Hub during the day, so you can see if any of the items interest you before dragging yourself along to it.

Okay, thank you for clarifying. I couldn’t remember the actual name of what they were, I also wasn’t 100% sure if you could only talk if you were recognised by one of their Grandmasters so I didn’t say anything but being sure will be very helpful.

I did mention the declarations but again, not by name because I couldn’t remember it. I am terrible with names, last time I went hunting for someone around the league only using the description of their clothes and their role.

I have to say, thank you all so much for being so welcoming and helping so much. It’s greatly appreciated.

I’m glad you feel welcome. Stepping into something new can be quite scary and when you are actually larping it can be hard knowing the difference between someone getting annoyed with you and someone’s character getting annoyed with you, it can be all the more worrying. The more welcome you feel now, the easier it should be for you to have fun when you are actually larping.

No worries, we’re right chatterboxes.

As an example of Crystal mana usage:

I have a mana site, which grants me 7 crystal mana a season.

I want to be carrying around 3 or 4 into battle/skirmish, as an emergency reserve (for Swift Heal, in my case). I want to drop off at least a couple with my House Seneschal (who holds the funds and shinies for the group, to be spent on bigger stuff, such as national rituals). And then, any left I’ll sell at as high a cost as possible for some spending cash

Obviously, if I don’t need to dip into the emergency stash, I’ll have a little more available to donate or sell each event.

Also carrying a couple of Mageblood potions (Drink = regain 2 personal mana. Roleplay effect = “Oh what a wonderful world, I’m just going to watch it for a moment…”). This is because these are cheaper than Crystal Mana (usually), but take time to drink.

On the subject of selling crystal mana, the general price is usually 1.5 to two crowns. This is great if you want to sell it but not so good if you want to buy it. I think you start off with around a crown along side your chosen resource. This means you will have to trade or find work if you want to get any more. There was a post earlier on looking about that so I won’t go into detail here.

You can boost the amount of crystal mana your mana site produces by upgrading it but I believe it requires two wains of mithril which is rather expensive. To get those wains you will have to either trade with someone who has it or get a seat on the bourse, either way that requires a lot of money.
