Five major conjunctions, and a saturday skirmish. As always, the Muster will pick two of them to try and take advantage of.
+++PARTICIPATION IN THE EAST+++
After a long chat last night, I’m editing in a participation section for the Barrens and Zenith. It will allow some of you to start the game with horrible IC disadvantages representing being poisoned by the Druj - assuming that’s your idea of a good time.
Any character whose personal resource is in the Barrens or Zenith may choose to e-mail in to firstname.lastname@example.org before the event and indicate they would like to begin play suffering the ater-effects of a wound inflicted by the Druj. We will then put a card in your pack detailing the ongoing effects. As a word of warning, the Druj make extensive use of venom and disease when fighting the Empire, and several of those toxins are resistant to the application of the purify spell, being much closer in potency to a curse or traumatic wound than the venom spell-effect.
But this comes with a caveat.
Last event, we offered anyone passing throug hthe Paths of the Dea… Lan Thuven the chance to have green lung… and that lead to a lot of requests for “traumatic wounds” from other battles. We’ve already had multiple requests for traumatic wounds this downtime for one reason or another.
The problem is that traumatic wounds are immediate effects. You get them in uptime and they are designed to either be temporary problems … or kill you eight hours later if you don’t get medical treatment. It feels a bit “Traveller character creation” to issue you with a bit of card that says you died two months ago in downtime
The long and the short is that it is not worth e-mailing in to ask if you can have a traumatic wound because of X downtime battle unless we have already presented the opportunity to do so. The reason the Druj option was delayed was not because we hadn’t thought of it until people e-mailed in, but because the Boss and I were still discussing implementation - but didn’t want to delay the last two Winds of War until today.
The main reason is that traumatic wounds are a specific thing in the game, and work in a specific (immediate) way. Any “lingering effects of Downtime” we offer are carefully tailored to the downtime story, and that takes time and effort.
I have no problem at all with you turning up on the field at Anvil covered in blood with your arm in a sling claiming that it was CLEAVEd by a Grendel sword, or IMPALED by a Jotun arrow … but that will be dealt with for 1 mana by the use of the REPAIR LIMB spell - probably after you sit through a lecture about not washing the blood off before setting off for Anvil
