What are/were your worries about going to Empire?

Which nation are you thinking of joining? There are a lot of Scottish Larpers around!

I’m still unsure, I kinda like Dawn or Varushka but since I don’t have a clear image of a character is hard to choose hahaha. I didn’t know there were a lot of Scottish tbh! That’s exciting!

I wanted to create something related to healing, trading or rituals since I’m not bad at crafting on my free time and I don’t like direct combat but usually the characters I’ve played are quite dark and arrogant (I used to go more for politics and strategics) I feel kinda out of the comfort zone which is also fun… In which nation are you?

I’m Highguard myself. I know of a few Scottish players in both Dawn and Varushka; if you join the respective facebook groups I’m sure you could find some people to connect with.

Varushka will suit a dark character, Dawn will suit an arrogany one

Thank you very much! That’s quite helpful! (I’ll have to make a facebook account but hey it was about time I guess). Still, I will work on the character and create a more clear image.

Oh thank you very much! I’ll have that in mind (it kinda sums it up pretty clearly!).

I am coming from Canada and I do not know anyone in England. It be hard to get lost because I do not have a guide to show me. which way to EMPIRE.

I’ve been haunting the Profound Decisions website for about 5 years now, having never really had anyone closer than 3,000 miles who was into the same stuff as me. In spite of this last year I decided that come hell or high water that I would attend Empire, even if it meant popping up a one man tent and going in blind. I was scrolling through a few of the fabulous photo albums from the event photographers and spotted a mate of mine, who I had no idea went to Empire and sent it to her (which was amazing because she had the best stink face going). This was just before E4 last year and I was in no way confident enough with my kit to jump in that early but they and another friend of mine had been coming for years with the Marchers and really graciously said I was welcome with them anytime. I’d already been working on my Navarr kit and I knew I wouldn’t be able to sink as much money and passion into it if I switched nations just to be with them IC, though we’ve worked out a story involving some treacherous land nearby a trod and helping the safe passage of some cheeky pigs which explains why I’m close enough to camp IC with them.

Even though everyone I’ve interacted with on the Facebook page has been more than welcoming, I’m very insecure about my kit and trying to drum up some roleplay with others from the Navarr who I have no prior connection to without putting my foot in my mouth! I’m worried I’ll make one tiny mistake and let it get to me and I’ll end up sitting in my tent in self-imposed exile. I’m hoping the roleplay Gods will come through and I’ll just stick it out but those first few minutes on Friday night are going to be a test!

I know this is an older thread but if you do still want to try and work out some vague plot as a starting point between Hiraeth and Lucia I’d love to hear more about her.

So your first language is Spanish? This is one of the languages used in the IC foreign nation called the Asavean Archipelago:
https://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/empire-wiki/Asavean_Archipelago
On that page it says, ā€œThe focus of the Empire campaign is on the Empire and its citizens, and while this information can be used to create backgrounds or inform role-playing on the field; it is not intended that players portray characters from this foreign nation without discussion with Profound Decisions.ā€
It might be worth discussing with Profound Decisions (email backgrounds@profounddecisions.co.uk to discuss) to see if you can play a character who is now an Imperial Citizen of one of the Imperial nations, but joined the Empire fairly recently after growing up in the Asavean Archipelago. If they let you, this would give a reason why your character knows an Asavean language very well but is not quite so fluent and familiar with the Imperial language.
