I’m new to LRP, although have been looking to get involved for a few years and Empire seems right for me. I am really struggling with Nation choices though despite studying the Wiki!
I am looking to create a female, sword fighting warrior character but the aesthetics and look that I am drawn to i’m struggling to find the right fit for and any advice would be great.
I’ve added a couple of links to the looks that I am drawn to. Is this sort of thing suitable for a female Wintermark warrior?
The first two look spot on for Wintermark in my view, the first one could edge into Varushkan as well.
Your second two hit more “Navarr” in terms of overall look for me, aside from the skirts (not very practical fighting wear). For Urizen you’d want to avoid the fur/wilderness trappings and go for a more simple look; the layered dress in the third shot could be very appropriate in a lighter shade of green, certainly.
The top one looks fairly wintermark to me (the one below that again wintermark but that might just be the snow in the background.)
As for the lower two, the top one does have Urizenii elements to it, the way it’s layered is very Urizen, but I feel the combination of tan brown and green makes it too earthy. Also the armour designs don’t say Urizen to me
A little less symmetry and it could work for Navarr, the armour design would also work well for wintermark (although what is under it less so.)
The lower one doesn’t say Urizen at all to me, again it would be a good fit for Navarr, (Particularly the Navarr region near Dawn - The cut of the dress is a little Dawnish, as far as I can see)
That third one is actually one of the costume references for Steinr on the Wintermark Costume page so I think all of those pictures would fit the Wintermark look. Then it comes down to if the culture of Wintermark grabs you as well as their visual style.
I’ll have a go at finding some pictures of women warriors with swords from each of the nations to see if we can tempt you with another nation . But right now you’re talking Wintermark.
Thanks so much for your responses, that’s really helpful. I’m really looking forward to getting involved - I wish I had a few years back but work and life kind of got in the way but now i’m really going to go for it. When I get into something I tend to go the whole hog!
Mark - that would be so helpful if you can find some female warrior pics from other nations too, although at the moment I do seem to be heading towards the look and culture of Wintermark!
Also, I saw that this years main events were held in Warwickshire, do you know if that’s the plan for 2016 also? Would be pretty handy for me as I live in Warwickshire.
So for the bottom one, you wouldn’t usually see fur in Urizen, maybe a few bits as tidy trim, but anything looking like skins of dead animals is more Navarr or Wintermark.

There will be a new site next year, but it’s very likely to be central England not too far away.
If you are wearing a skirt or dress, I would very much recommend not making it too long, due to mud. Personally I wouldn’t go for anything past knee-length, but definitely not past mid-calf.
. But right now you’re talking Wintermark.
