Reading the rules on Archery and Arrow Safety one thing it doesn’t mention is types of knocks able to be used? the diagram shows a fitted knock like on modern arrow so plastic ones but are there rules on Traditional Knocks such as the ones cut into the shaft properly and twined around when feather fletching, main reason for asking is I used to be an Archery Instructor and in our safety brief we used to give modern plastic knocks was always described as the most dangerous part of target archery, as it’s almost as pointy as the arrowhead but facing backwards and obviously due to interest in the awesome looking hobby also very new to discovering it.
No you can use either type of nock.
The reason in traditional archery that the nock is warned about is because it sticks out towards the archer when the arrow is in the target. Larp arrows don’t stick in targets, they fall on the ground so you don’t get that particular situation.
As with all parts of the arrow the nock should be checked before shooting every single time, and should be intact, firmly attached to the arrow and not full of mud. We do also remind other players that they must not swing their other larp weapons at an arrow in flight so they avoid flipping the arrow to travel nock first.
I think most archers on larp battlefields prefer plastic nocks and feathers because they survive being trodden on better than wooden shafts with real feathers, and despite everyone bets efforts arrows do get trodden on fairly often.
if you can come early on the Friday there is an Archery briefing on the skirmish field, usually 3pm which is worth attending.
Being already trained in archery will be an advantage but there are significant differences with larp archery but it is great fun!
(Also an archery instructor myself)
Cheers
