Hey,
So I was looking at ways of splitting our Bell tent. We currently have an inner tent to separate IC from OC. However, it isn’t the best fit, and we lose too much headroom.
I’m looking at other ways to separate the tent, and I am currently thinking of curtains tied to the central pole and the side of the tent.
Has anyone done this already or found alternative methods that were just as effective?
Thanks
Foster
Having a Pavilion tent I have the advantage of the “ cartwheel” above to hang drapes so can’t give advice from experience. Where possible try stretching bungee straps with the safer carabiner ends( prevents taking eyes out ) If feeling confident try stitching in D ring eyelets to extra reinforced patches on the roof then extra seem seal with waterproofing. Another option is a self standing 3way folding modesty changing screen that can have IC designs murals or fabric to hide the OC items
Excuse the horsey thing on the screen I know it pushes credibility somewhat
If you are looking for alternative methods, you might consider using dividers or screens that can be attached to the tent. They may be more durable and better divide the tent into separate areas. You might also consider using separate tents for each group of people if you have enough space.
My group has an emperor bell (which is just like a bell but longer), and we just tie some string from the pole down to the corners, then just drape a couple of super large white bedsheets over the string. It’s not perfect, but it works well enough to keep our OC stuff hidden away!
We did look at getting a screen like that, but we would have the issue of the sloping sides of the tent leaving a large air gap where you can see the dumping ground of OOC stuff. I do love the screen you have though, horse included.
We went pretty big and got a 7.5m bell tent, even though it’s just the two of us. I’ve not seen any screens that would work for it, which is where the curtain idea spawned.
Thank you for the advice. This is essentially what we are going for to keep stuff looking IC for when we have visitors. Just wanted to know how feasible it is or what potential issues people have come across when trying to do it.
The main issue I’ve come across when just using sheets and string, is sometimes the sheets getting blown or caught open - if you do use this kind of method, then I recommend some plain wooden pegs as well, just to help keep them in place!
Will say, for this part of the idea, PD has said that we all need to cut down on IC tents used JUST for sleeping unless it is a OC accessibility issue!
Is that what it is, a horse ….there’s me thinking it was a very thin ox lol. Point taken re sloping sides though you could always slant a bean cane and drape a curtain or maybe bamboo style roller blind from the high points ( or something like a lightweight clothes horse)
