Coming for a day only - new players - how to manage?

Hello we are a family of three, two adults and an 11 year old and are coming for the first time to the autumn equinox event. We will be Navarr characters but really only want to come along to watch and learn. The snag is that our child is at school so we can’t come until Saturday and then can only stay for a day before heading home as we have other things we can’t get out of. How best to maximise our time and learn, but not get in the way or make mistakes?

How best to arrive and get going? I assume go to GOD and I have heard there are characters who help you understand the plot (Eregores?). My son would like to attend the children’s session which explains the game but it sounds like that is on the friday night?

Firstly your timing. The game on Saturday is from 10am till 1 in the morning… If I were in your shoes, I’d try to book into a nearby hotel, get there Friday night, play Saturday, hotel, leave Sunday morning.

You’ll want to drop in at GOD to pick up character packs (as these contain some in-game money and similar which you may want to spend as you wander round), and that should be open Saturday morning, no problem.

(tickets for the day are not normally available, you may be able to ask Profound Decisions for a discount when you book, it’s worth a try)

The Egregores (think of them as the magical mascot characters for each nation) are meant to help new players integrate and find stuff to do, but they can be hard to find and rather busy :slight_smile:
The new player workshops are indeed, alas, on Friday afternoon.

If I may make a suggestion:
Arrive onsite sometime between 8 and 10am. Throw on some costume, maybe get breakfast on site. Visit GOD before 10am to collect your pack(s). Visit the Childrens Academy and see what they have planned for the day. As the game starts (10am), wander through the camps and see the bustle as many of them head off to the morning battle. Cheer them on, especially if it’s Navarr. Maybe watch the opening ceremonies as they pour through the Sentinel gate to danger and glory (11am)! Wander through all the camps, spend some money, ask people to explain things (gamers love talking about their characters), and jump into activities… Hear the stories from returning warriors, ask about the issues of the nation that are important this season. Get some lunch in-game, see what is happening at the Ritual Circle, at the Glory Square in Dawn, if any of the League theatres are showing, which nations have a festival on… Ask, wander, listen and watch through the afternoon. In the evening, linger with the sunset for Songs & Stories at Navarr, before having to make your exit as the light fades…
(A useful phrase: “I’m new to Anvil”. It’s a conversational flag that you’re new players, and folk will explain and forgive any minor upsets. Use as you see fit.)

Thanks so much, this is super useful to help me plan some ‘structure’. We have booked a hotel as recommended and will aim to arrive early and get stuck in!!
