Hi all!
My friends and I are coming to our first event at the end of July. I was wondering if there are places to set up a small BBQ even if we aren’t camping? IC or OOC would be fine. Just might help with some dietary things (and money!).
Thanks in advance
Calvin
The Fire rules are here: Fire safety - Empire
OOC camping usually has people pitching tents near their cars, so as long as there is safe clearance between you and the next tent or vehicle you should be OK, as long as it’s raised off the ground.
IC you would probably need to talk to your national camp planner about making a gap for you.
Do also bear in mind that there are plenty of caterers who can cope with allergies and restrictions, certainly vegan, vegetarian and gluten free are fairly well represented.

Additional note:
If we are in drought conditions, if it has been particularly dry, PD may put up a ban on all player firepits, BBQs, and the like, as too great a fire hazard.
It has been done before, weather dependant. Just a possibility.
Have you seen my articles on camp cooking and hot weather camping?
What about if I’m not camping?
If there’s a fire safety ban, it’ll apply to everyone across the field, not just those camping
Also, hot weather camping tips are general hot weather health and safety tips.
Because, as a good friend of mine once said, “there’s nothing more immersion breaking than having to be escorted off the field by folks in high vis vests”
(Dehydration is bastard to deal with. Enhance your fun, look after yourself)
I’m not referring to fire safety, I’m trying to get an answer to my initial question. Are there places to BBQ during the day even if I’m not camping? I’m staying in an AirBNB.
Ah, misunderstanding, sorry!
(A lot of folks have used “I’m not camping” to mean “I’m not camping in-character”)
Unless you can find a group of friends willing to let you share their group cooking area (in game) or just set up a BBQ where they have their tents pitched (out-of-character), then no.
(it’s quite likely that if you ask nicely, you may well be able to set up a BBQ in someone’s area… especially if you give away cooked munchies…)
There are no dedicated BBQ areas set aside for general use.
