A message from the PD security team:
The security team are looking for safety marshals to join our night crew. If you enjoy helping people and walking (lots of walking!), then this role is for you!
We are on duty from 1am until 8am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to make sure that there are members of staff awake and ready to help round the clock. What we actually get to do is variable and unpredictable (apart from walking, of course).
Our standard duties are patrolling the site, checking for unattended fires, keeping an eye on the site infrastructure, and helping event participants with any problems that may happen. Sometimes, we have to deal with more serious incidents; other times, nothing happens at all.
Our main concern is the people. Everyone should be safely tucked away for the night and if we find someone who isn’t, we make sure they reach their home-from-home and have everything they need. When the weather is bad, we also keep an eye on the infrastructure, especially the biggest tents, making sure they are secure. Which means that, after being a good walker, being waterproof is the next most important thing.What we like about it is being able to help people (obviously) but wandering around at night offers many nice surprises. We get to see the site like nobody else does, and visit all the nooks and crannies. Nature at night is amazing too: shooting stars, beautiful sunrises, mysterious mists in the forest…
Depending on how much sleep you need, you can get quite a lot of roleplaying as a character in the game, as long as you fit it in around your shifts and save enough energy to do the job well.
You do not need any experience or real-life qualifications - we will teach you everything you need to know. You need to be reasonably fit though: patrols require long walks in all weathers.

Ah, I wish I was fit enough to do this. I love being on site when there are only a few low fires, brilliant stars, the sunrises, dew rising. Maybe less when there’s a storm coming through and the ground is made of soul-sucking mud, but I have many fond memories of tramping across various fields at 4am.
