Crochet IC on the field

Question for the people who bring their crochet to the field, this will be the first event I’m considering bringing a project to (not to sell just becuase I’m behind on my projects) so that I have something to sit with during non battles or meetings etc.

I have bought a little basket to use as a craft bag and some bamboo crochet hooks to make everything a bit more IC and don’t plan on bringing any projects that would look out of place (I make mostly ammigurumi so characters etc). I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to get a hook travel bag type thing that would pass for IC so I dont have to have the hooks loose in the bottom of the basket or risk them going walkabouts.

The only other items I dont think will be IC will be the row counter and stitch marker, both are plastic but pretty small so didnt think it would be a big deal but if anyone has suggsstions for IC versions of these that would be awesome.

Finally, I know I’ve left it to the very last second, only made this decision yesterday when stressing about how far behind I was and no home time over the weekend.

I absolutely crochet on the field. Bamboo hooks are perfect. How else can one endure meetings.

I just use a little cloth bag for hooks. I also only bring a couple just in case they get lost so that I haven’t lost all my stuff. I tend to make larger, simple things like shawls though, so I only need one or two hooks at most.

You are right that stitch counters etc. will be a tad out of place but if you keep them in the basket, nominally out of sight, that’s not going to break folks’ immersion. If you’re deep in a place with a lot of RP (rather than just sitting around camp) then perhaps switch to a project where you don’t need to count too much (like some fingerless gloves or something) so that you don’t need it.

Sorry for not directly answering the questions about finding IC versions of those things, but hopefully it’s given you some positivity.

Thank you thats very helpful. Im planning on bringing a dice bag im working on so its one big piece. I was thinking of maybe looking for a metal stitch marker to be slightly more ic and the counter can be hidden.

I like this style of stitch markers when plastic isn’t suitable - available from lots of other sources, I think mine were from eBay.

IC row counters are a little trickier, though this kind work if it’s keeping track of where you are in a pattern repeat. Again, lots of other places (Etsy, Amazon, eBay) sell similar, and if you or someone you know makes jewellery they’re not hard to assemble.

For bigger numbers I think just keeping your regular counter out of sight in your workbag and checking it discreetly is fine.

Thank you for this. I found some metal stitch markers that a friend had made me, although they had little charms on them that might not be IC they were small enough that I didn’t worry about it. I left my row counter in the bag as you said and just reached it to turn it at the end of each round.

It was actually nice to have it with me and have something to sit with when I wasn’t in battle
