Hi folks! If you’d like to froth generally about the event just gone, the ups, the downs, the sideways*, then please do so here.
As with the Facebook thread, this is intended to keep the tales of triumph and tragedy in one place instead of dozens, for ease of reading and tidyness.
*Although it wasn’t really muddy enough to slip much, was it?
There was so much drama in Dawn that I felt safest avoiding it. Bit of FOMO there, but probably safest all round.
I didn’t battle as my character. For good reasons, but I missed the excitement and tension.
Really cold nights. Really hot days. Did not bring sunscreen.
Hots:
I did lots of singing! I sang “In Therunin” to lots of people and none of them cracked up laughing! (I filked “Hallelujah”)
I got a story I needed from the Marches! (buy them a beer first)
I sold ALL my snacks by 17:00 Saturday, which was ridiculous. Thanks to all who bought gingerbread Druj et al. The King, for the record, was claimed early Saturday afternoon by Guy Du Froste.
Double monstering! Exhausting! Great fun! No injuries, and many dramatic deaths. Bonus points for the Freeborn who Paralysed me as a Jotun, stabbed me up about 15 times, and then Cleaved me to make sure… Also enjoyed chatting with the new players I met while monstering; new audiences for old stories.
The food stalls continue to be excellent. Between the Spicey Box, The Smokey Hole, and Skian Mhorish, I was very well fed!
Star stuff…even if poor Shibboleth’s first experience with it was the Claw. (Same as my previous character’s first tulpa/start touched experience, which was…odd for it to then be Shibboleth’s)
Weakness mage duty for the Archmage of Summer’s parlay with Meraud
The worst grieving advice being offered by Shibboleth to multiple people who lost folks, thus establishing the fact he’s an absolutely blunt ass of a draughir around this topic
Parade of the Dead. This was the first time I’ve done a big ol’ walk round Anvil IC and aaaaaa! Such a fun/immersive event
Nots
The number of times I accidentally hit my head on something/got hit (by accident) by something. Really no one’s fault but my own, BUT…
How Dawn’s pile up of situations made it feel a bit like any other Nations’ big dramas were more muted than normal
The distinct feeling that, whilst I had meaty bits of plot I was poking, I didn’t really get the chance to sink my teeth into it in the way I wanted to
Missed connections. So. Many. (Still need to talk to someone IC about their penance, which we both should have done this season, but Anvil happened)
Here are mine for an event where Otmar successfully got involved with “plot” and more than doubled his bank’s holdings.
NOTS
I need to change the top buttons on my breeches. I had a couple of “wardrobe malfunctions”, though they weren’t as embarrassing as they might have been if I hadn’t decided to wear black thermal trousers underneath.
Not enough sleep.
One of my children phoned me during a business deal – I hadn’t had my phone on me at all but I’d just come back from writing a called winged messenger and they are on my emergency contact list so putting my phone on silent didn’t stop a second call. I decided to briefly answer to confirm it wasn’t urgent (which it wasn’t).
HOTS
Having an NPC attend Holberg Forum and discuss the possibilities of building a port in a marsh.
Having my usual cash engine fail because the relevant business contacts appeared in the wrong order. Sometimes they are minutes apart just before the bourse auction but this time one was on Friday and the other on Saturday afternoon such that I had to make a quick decision on how to price weirwood.
Having an agent report back to me with the new best price for weirwood and it being the same as the figure I’d told them I expected.
My bourse plan: getting approval from the Princes’ Council, Laurencio’s objection to the first version, announcing my bid at the auction with it’s reason and approval rather than making a pretence that I was bidding against the incumbent.
Having a business meeting with another NPC in the Crimson Reaper’s main tent (related to a totally different port) because we needed armed protection from a breech of the peace.
Finding a Reaper to sell wains to a condemned acquaintance so he could settle a reckoning before entering the labyrinth.
More NPCs. This time sand fisher orcs in our tent. Being able to participate in a long conversation with Three Hands (Matt P) alongside the senator for Holberg (plus proxy), the Rebeshof Roadwarden (my wife), The Prince of the Misericorde Market and a friend from Urizen who happened to be visiting at the right time, who gave me a mithril to send to the sand fishers in the middle of a Rivers of Gold ritual at my second or third event.
Selling votes to one consortium with approval from another because a condition placed on the sale meant that the contest for the second available title would be much more interesting.
I’m really enjoying the astromancy plot. I don’t take the field (too scared) and don’t get involved in politics (too bored) but finding stuff out is great fun for me. I hope there’ll be lots more of this.
Got to watch a big Plot scene, very impressed.
Lots of RP - this was a very different experience for me compared to last year where I’d struggled to find (let alone get involved in) any RP. This time it was easy (huge thanks to my new group, too).
