E1 2026 Hots & Nots, Collected Thread

So how did it go?

First event at the new site ups or downs?
Highly variable temperature, dust, a very different layout…

Tell us what awesome shenanigans you got up to! The Good! The Bad! The Dusty!

It was good to be back in a field. I managed to get more music going than usual, and managed to conserve energy well enough that I could do things like walk to the Regio when I needed it, which was a blessing.

I’m not a fan of the spread-out layout, and it’s wasn’t great being stuck in the traffic jam for two hours leaving site, but that’s teething problems of a new site and honestly I thought the whole thing went really well given the massive scale of the game. The weather helped; I know it was a bit too hot during the day and a bit too cold at night but not having to do everything through sucking mud was great. Dust > swamp.

Good game, good game!

Hots

  • All PD crew i interacted with were awesome in all aspects.
  • Toilets and facilities top notch.
  • Site easy to find.
  • Game and plot good fun
  • New site has great potential

Nots

  • That q to get out…
  • God stuck miles away from some camps.
  • Food catering miles away from some camps.
  • Traders miles away from some camps and a really odd layout with one side hard to access. Bring back the city main street with traders leading to the tavern. Much more atmospheric and evocative of a major city.

Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed the event, despite the dust. I can only imagine the amount of work PD must have put in (and still will need to put in to develop the site).

I suppose I was lucky because I only had to queue for a short while when leaving. And it’s great not having to drive over that horrible stony access road in Dadford. But my goodness, it’s a day’s march from the car park to the site now.

I liked how many more IC traders there were now that there’s more space. But I think it’s too much space - all I could see were similar looking tents with a few people here and there, and the magic of the crowded old site was lost. And everywhere looked the same, I couldn’t tell which nation I was in a lot of the time. I agree with Kharn about the layout too.

We need street signs at the very least.

Ah, sleeping bag labels are a bit of a lie. They will stop you dying of hypothermia at the stated temperatures, not keep you pleasantly warm so that you can sleep. Once I learned that nugget of information they made more sense (and I now pack a minimum of one extra duvet and an insulating layer to go underneath me).

But otherwise I’m glad you were welcomed and (I hope!) had a great time.

  • Walking/close distance to Cottenham and being able to do a polite mooch in the town Friday morning/early afternoon. (The greengrocer was amazing, same with the little community run coffeeshop opposite the Co-Op)

  • Dancing with the two Ylenwe heralds in HoW on Saturday evening with my IC/OC partner, the Archmage of Summer, Archmage of Day, and a few others. The crew for that encounter managed to balance befuddlement with strange physical realm dancing and joy of discovery wonderfully

  • Whoever misidentified Shibboleth at the Barrien tourney as a battlemage after Urizen and Dawn had their go at each other. This keeps happening, it amuses me OC, but my poor boy is starting to get a complex about it. (And tells me , OC, I should properly look at tweaking how my armour and soft kit is set up)

  • Noise levels in IC camping at night felt a lot more manageable than I’d anticipated them being with the proximity to the S&S circle and the main road between Gate/Navarr/Urizen my group’s tent was

Not

(I understand a lot of these are new site teething issues)

  • The combo of sandy dust, groundsel (mostly in seed) as the only ground cover plant in Urizen/Navarr and the bigger skirmish field area, and the sheer footfall made the air near impossible to breathe at times. I would have murdered for some version of dust surpression in the main IC field by 2 hours into time in on Friday

  • Being directed, on Thursday arrival of coach, to go all the way ‘round the outside of the site on foot to access Urizen/Navarr area. It’s a long ol’ haul without luggage on foot, let alone with luggage.

  • I’m not certain I was a huge fan of the lack of clear IC/OC divide around Accessibility Parking/Camping North. Assortment of reasons, perhaps most selfishly/bit mean spirited on my part, one being “let’s watch the off Anvil stuff through the gaps in the hedge from this spot” that was occurring in quite significant volumes across the weekend. (Kinda felt disrespectful of the sleeping/camping space that Access North was supposed to be)

  • The closest way to get from Access North and onto the field for wheelchair users/folks with less secure balance being through the Gate set up. I, really, felt for folks camping in Access North and their inability to quickly enter IC/access the loos if there was groups heading out onto the skirmish fields

Apologies, this was me. You were in the Urizen team with a long weapon and no obvious clank, I jumped to a conclusion.

You’re not the first and probably won’t be the last

OC, amuses me and, really, it’s what I get for wearing leather under a sleeveless long that covers all of the armour on my torso and leaves the bracers visible

IC, Shibboleth has a formulated through Highguard and other life experiences almost confusion about it
