E2 2025 Hots and Nots, collected thread

We’d love to hear what you thought, the ups, the downs, and the memories…

I’ve been away for best part of two years, and it was so good to be back in a field. Stand out mentions to:

  • Zenith Ascendant for taking on a new guest and being wholly supportive both IC and OC.
  • Various folks in Urizen taking the time to say “I like the music” both IC and OC and also being supportive in general to a new-to-the-nation player.
  • Several Navarri saying “You’re the knife fighter!” after getting to participate in their Spring festival (I do love a blind knife fight, especially as an unarmoured mage who goes down like a sack of potatoes on their second hit. Kudos to their healers who promised to, and did, get me back up afterwards).
  • Not one, but two pieces of music plot on the field.
    • The performance in Senate didn’t quite go as planned as most of us wildly misinterpreted the information we’d been given but at least in the end I feel the heralds went away with a few performances that was close to what they wanted. Hopefully next time that happens we can be more closely aligned.
    • The Chimes plot was very fun to get involved with, and I hope it gets more interest in the Silutarian Method going forward (and not just to sell more pamphlets).
      • Getting to solo cast a ritual ten minutes after time in with my first ever ritual in the regio in all my days of RP was also awesome: no time for a plan, just hope all the background prep worked… and it did.
  • FIRE and SINGING: these two things never get old and are the cornerstone of my events. It was so good to get a few songs around the hearth.
  • Urizen pulling together, pulling in every favour they could, and getting something absolutely storming completed in just one summit. Truly formidable teamwork from the nation.
  • Although I only sold a handful of the things I brought along, they were good reasons to talk to people and I hope to build on that more at E3. I’m not a natural trader but if I view it as ‘RP opportunities’ I feel much better about it.
  • OC, the weather was a touch hot but not formidably so, and having solid ground under my feet meant zero trips/falls, and that I am vaguely alive and not a giant ball of pain and regret today. I took breaks, my van setup worked just as well as I hoped, and the positioning of the new Accessible camp really helped me as I could drop OC fairly easily without having to spend a bunch of spoons to do so.
  • Finally: seeing the STARS at night, oh I have missed them. <3

I’m back. It’s great. See you at E3.

Things that went well
•Survived my first big battle (Sunday), despite 9 impales
•got testimonied
•Threatened an abnormally secretive grendel
•got to watch a Whispers Through The Black Gate
•tried to get an oddity in the whispers insighted, arrived with a priest too late, and I think they went to complain at the imperial necromancer for not having a priest on hand to insight anyway
•argued with a Lasambrian about virtue

Hots

  • Asking my OC partner, IC in the worst, most awkward way possible to be my current character’s date mate. Alongside the resulting RP with Ember’s Wake’s current Arbiter
  • The “are all weddings in Urizen like this?” That my poor Highborn got to watch/get last moment involved in…like, seven assorted tulpa of the Wanderer, three Kimus heralds, and the personification of the Witch, alongside the standard wedding precedings left Shibboleth very confused
  • The horror of Shibboleth facing tortured souls for the first time since the last were removed from Reikos. And his very IC anger after the first of those skirmishes failed to get any of the tortured souls or Druj driving them into the Barrens
  • Finally getting to get to use the priest skills Shibboleth has…and being able to utter the magical words of “no, I’m not /that/ sort of priest” when someone asked for something standard and priest shaped

Nots

  • I need more Liao. Kinda just need to get better at trading for it and knowing who’s got stashed in field…but between all the fun plot bits with star curses, tortured soul curses, and boggart shenanigans, my poor lil amount has dwindled

Have you made it as far as the League? I have a trading board outside with my prices and have a constant stream of customers.

Yes

However, I’m also aware that prices fluctuate and there’s variance (in favour of someone who’s cash poor) across field depending upon majority resource in Nation

(That and liao is something which fluctuates more wildly than mana crystals in terms of plot relevant costing)

In that case you’ll be surprised how little my prices fluctuate, though perhaps that’s because cash is the majority resource in the League. I’m unlikely to change my liao price in the foreseeable future. My mana price could change, but that’s unlikely to happen any time soon.

This was my first event and I came totally solo with only a few IC letters sent before the summit to try and make a few contacts. It was a steep learning curve but I feel more prepared for E3

Hots

  • I didn’t expect people to be so friendly, receptive, and bold. Once time in began people were totally in character trying to sell me things and interacting and I wasn’t quite prepared for that, but I’m glad it happened because I had felt quite alone up until time-in and as someone who has a lot of social anxiety I was very grateful that the experienced roleplayers set example so quickly
  • Managed to get on skirmish after time in on the Friday and survived, though I didn’t catch the new player introduction to combat, there was one call that confused me, but people are ready to help and explain things. Everyone I met was incredibly patient and understanding. Next event I’m aiming to get into the new player skirmish before the event begins and get a greater understanding
  • The OC traders were great, Tom at the burger/lemonade stand was great to chat to in particular
  • The event is so immersive, spent a great deal of time simply people watching and admiring their outfits. Felt very strange to leave back into the real world on Sunday
  • Really love having IC money to trade with. Again, first LRP event, the concept of being given money to buy things with is new to me and I’m a big fan
  • Game has so much to offer that I feel I’ve barely scratched the surface which is great, it inspires a return and I can see why people have played for years and years
  • Dawn’s glory square had a lot of activity this event, I think the wedding on Friday was a highlight and watching the bards come together and play
  • Almost scammed by three children with a bonded dagger looted from a Jotun

Nots

  • mostly physical injury. Unfortunately on Saturday morning I monstered and lasted 10 minutes before falling backwards and getting a severe ankle sprain, which meant limping around the field for the rest of the event and eventually gave up even trying to reach the food court. Definitely recommend if there are any new players reading this to get some solid ankle support
  • the sun. I’ve ordered a parasol ready for summer and will likely get a folding wooden chair to bring around for the quiet periods too
  • bug bites! Again, just things I didn’t consider before coming and going to invest in some bug spray
  • social anxiety… The first few hours of Friday I had major doubts about being there. I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t really know how to approach anyone without being very awkward, generally had not a good time. However I found a few players who were also having their first event and bonded with them, then eventually found some players I had exchanged letters with, and eventually the weekend went smoothly and I found it far easier to interact in character. Very glad I persevered through it

I’m glad you found your game. Coming to LRP for the first time is intimidating even if you already know people, doing it on your own is even more so! Fingers crossed your ankle heals swiftly.

Two first time players. We had a great time, everyone was universally friendly and helpful (even when we got things wrong).

Our only real feedback on improving things was the lack of road signs for the one way system. We camped in the Wintermark OC area and did a shopping run on the Friday and were twice turned back because we went the wrong way. By the time we started seeing one-way signs, there was only one direction to go!

Apart from that small issue, we had a great time and are booked in for E4. See you then!
