E3 2026 Hots and Nots, collected thread

Did you have a grand time at E3 and want to recount bits of it in detail?

Did you run into some things that really annoyed you?

Tell us all about it, your “Hots and Nots”, below!

For me, some great times…

Hots
Getting to slap out solo buff rituals on folks on Friday evening.
Lots of trading of bigger chunks than I’ve ever done:
“I’ve got 25 dragonbone.”
“I’ll take the lot!”
Training up new players, especially two young sisters headed for the Sword&Sorcery pairing cliche with great enthusiasm.
Singing my adverts for everything around Dawn, the Hub, any nation that didn’t throw me out :stuck_out_tongue:
And on a meta level, catering the right amount for my group! Everyone fed, no big piles of munchies left over!

Nots:
The dust. That just got everywhere, didn’t it? Sweeping out my tent at take-down was endless…
Loud groups past midnight. There were some parties that went on way too long.
…I made three trips to RitualGod on Saturday morning, had to run to make the Last Call for Monsters, shot folks for half an hour before snapping my bow-string :stuck_out_tongue: Not quite the fun I wanted there.

  • So much incidental herald time. Bumped into two different sets of heralds/not quite heralds on the Saturday afternoon and was tagged in as another pair of eyes for the not-quite-parlay for the Archmage of Summer on the Meraud one that same afternoon
  • “…and you have the memory that you were talking to someone, but you can’t remember who or what.” “From when?” “From the first point you talked to them, okay? And time in” (the entire encounter, just…hoo boy)
  • First time in an encounter tent and realising I’m not as shit as storytelling as Shibboleth as I think I am
  • Anvil Hospital post-dark shit posting hours. I adore the Anvil Hospital lot and after all the mass chaos is done, it’s always good to just sit and chat IC shit. (So many bits come from this period. Including the dire pigeons and “Bones! Physicks hate them!”)
  • Sunday battle went smoothly
  • Got to open the Gate for “my” lot for the first time as Shibboleth, which was a lot of grandstanding in a way that I’ve not had chance to do in a while

Not

  • I get this year is a year of learning what can be done with the combat field. I do. But we need more messengers/different way of communicating across the field for big battles if the full length is being used. Three folks running messages across the entire length of the field whilst monstering isn’t it. (I had fun, but I was dead on my feet for the rest of Saturday)
  • Wind + lack of shade + temperature+ so much dust+ glorious sunshine= It was like I was back in Arizona again (and not in a particularly fun way)
  • Standpipes, because of ground/air temperature, providing water that tasted like blood when warm and slightly like chlorine when cooler. Did not drink near enough water over the weekend because of that
  • Some small, petty bits which made the weekend a bit hmmmm in places
  • Winds of War/Winds of Fortune coming out late meant that my “hitting the ground running” felt less productive and more “screaming, panicking, unprepared”

  • I got to see friends. Sadly, everything was eclipsed by…

Nots

  • My 10-year-old character died in the Saturday battle. Not because of some heroic last stand, but because of being moved OC during a crush (along with a chunk of other Highguard players) and then immediately timed back in along with the orcs right next to us. It was not fun or memorable in any way, just frustrating.
  • Speaking of the battle, multiple crushes occured with zero referee intervention until someone was injured OOC.
  • A skirmish on Saturday was listed for 20 people on the wiki and by the warscout, but the refs closed the gate after 10 of us went through, almost leading to a TPK. Again, unfun and fustrating.

I’m not salty, just disappointed.

I was also in the crush that was relocated and sadly also went down with the rest of the Highguard players. As a healer it was devastating watching people go down and not be able to do anything to help them.

Hots - managing to scrape together enough banking and consortium cash for two Imperial Bourse seats - being able to put my IC niece on the second one (in fact the first one that came up) which prompted the John of Meade to declare that I’d run out of children when I took the Arratan Gamble myself (we haven’t). Getting a bid of 5 thrones in on a third seat because that was all I had left.

Nots - ground too hard for my wooden pegs. Loud music in senate after 1am on Saturday night (though I was asleep before 2am so I can’t say for sure how noisy the dancers were when they left).

Just a note, for those of you who faced OC issues with the battles or skirmishes, please do send the info to PD at feedback@profounddecisions.co.uk. If they don’t know where the problems are, they can’t do anything about them!

Already done, in detail.
