This year has been a lot for me outside of LRP, so coming back onto the field in 2025 has been difficult as it’s hard to leave all that baggage behind. But this event I finally started to find Theodora’s feet, and embrace being Urizeni.
The Dadford Road site has encompassed the lives of some of my favourite characters, and it’ll be sad leaving them behind there. On the other hand, I won’t miss the clay mud and the woodchip*!
Highlights for me were:
- inviting myself to a wedding that two excited people told me about OC and helping them officiate it when their celebrant couldn’t make it.
- being part of a conversation between a current egregore and the former host of an egregore spirit discussing the different ways this host-spirit relationship can manifest.
- getting to take my OC son for IC tea and cake so he could tell me all about his cadet adventures.
- having the revelation that I am no longer an 18 ring priest and I can afford to just go and get a cup of tea and a sit down with some knitting if I want an IC break without leaving the field.

- continuing my musical improv ritual journey and still feeling like I came up with something novel each casting (not all were perfectly successful but I don’t feel stuck in a rut which is nice).
- although I continue to rail against my physical and mental limitations, bringing my Switch and timing out for a couple of hours on Saturday was the correct choice and I’m grateful to my body for holding up during takedown as a result of my new, slower event pace.
- my group for continuing to assure me that although I am in no way a business wizard, I still bring something of my own and that is enough.
I wasn’t sure about my choice to return to LRP going into this event, but I’ve come out sure that although I am not the LRPer I once was I still have a place in the game here.

*Obviously the new site may well have both of these things, but hey, a girl can dream…

My 2nd event back after missing four in a row and patchy day visits for a few before that, feels like I’m getting back in the swing of things again now.
A lot’s changed in a year, especially for the go-to covens my character used for enchantments but it’s been rather fun learning Anvil afresh while knowing more than when I started playing.
The IC map of the field in the Hub was a delight to find; probably wouldn’t have made it to several meetings without it!
Having resources was a surprise! Hailing from Liathaven, the conquered territory penalty is rather internalised at this point. It’s back again this downtime but having the funds to counter it makes a world of difference.
My only Not of the event was repeatedly hearing IC references to “The Long Dark” and even “The Longest Dark” ahead. First off, let’s please never have to have another Longest Dark. But either term just dropped me right out of immersion each time. At the foot of Traders Row, it’s maybe not as surprising to hear in passing but it got bandied about in a national meeting too and even during a Senate motion on the Sunday afternoon. I tell myself that it’s probably a tired-brain thing for people but I encounter it at most E4s and this time I just need to vent about it.
Not an event thing but the rain made for a memorable trip along the a45 and I won’t miss Silverstone’s roadworks. Felt very apt to be leaving past Tournament Stud though. Looking forward to hearing more about the new site once PD are all recovered from Dadford’s last Anvil summit.

I’ve a lot of enthusiastic words about it that I’m working into shape, but for what the thematics of the new Winter eternal/s is/are it was beautiful - “I need you for a skirmish in,” Lanius checks timepiece, “45 minutes. Armour up.”
Heading out on a very unexpected, nice little bimble into Zenith for rapid fire violence against the Druj on Saturday - The small conversations had around what’s ongoing with star stuff
- My Urizeni Loyalty lay priest draughir having a conversation with a full Synod Navarri naga Ambition priest about realising how pouring from an empty cup is often not Wise
- Weird (amusing) priest conversation hours at the Sentinel Gate with one of the character/players I rarely get masses of RP with due to the Urizen-Wintermark physical distance and plot variables
- Well, looks like Urizen’s likely back to four territories again. (And now, everyone who told me we’d never had to worry about vallorn because it was a Navarri issue, having to gently chew on their words)

- The weather meaning we got the most Dadford campsite send off I could have imagined

- Few bits during at Sunday big battle which crossed over a line in regards to safety/comfort
- My right knee, despite my being very aware that it’s being an off and on painful nuisance currently, deciding that it’d give up the ghost early on Friday. (And my own idiocy to push it)
- Small Mhorrish. Warmer than usual, which was good, but the lack of the secondary door threw me hard

When spoken IC I think of the Long Dark as a reference to the period where the days are shortening between Autumn and Winter, and that this period of the year feels longer than the warmer, lighter months. The implication (AFAIUI) on the Glossary - Empire is that it can be used IC.
Wasn’t my reading of it, with the Glossary being a mix of IC and OC terms. But I’ll try and think of it your way next year, see if it can stop being a personal bugbear. Thanks.
