Is there a Wiki page detailing how the force weights are calculated on the battle opportunities section of the various Winds of War pages? e.g the table here
It’s clearly related to number of pre-booked characters for each nation, but is it simply that, or is weighting applied and if so on what basis?
I’m interested in the force weight by itself, but I’m also looking at it to see if I can work out attendee counts for each nation over time, so if that data is available directly that’d also be good to know.
Firstly, as far as I know, the data on attendee counts is not freely available. Probably because it would result in brags and insults, while not being relevant to the game.
The force weighting is connected to number of pre-booked characters, but only in an indirect manner.
It’s based on the numbers of characters who take the field of battle, from each nation.
So Urizen (which is much bigger than the Imperial Orcs) sends proportionately few combatants to battle, while the IO send a lot, and so come in over half the weighting of Urizen.
Dawn is a smaller nation than Navarr (just), but sends a lot more folk to battle, and so has a higher weighting.
Because the data is based on last events numbers, it won’t be perfect for each event, but it’s a good rough guide.
Interestingly, it’s not good for working out the monstering attendance, as several nations actually send more folk to monster than to fight as their characters…

I’d disagree on it not being relevant to the game. I’m pulling the data that’s available to support or disapprove some very IC arguments.
Raw attendee per nation numbers would be better, but it sounds like the weighting applied to each nation’s attendee count is likely to stay constant enough over time to show what I need. Especially when combined with the Conclave and Synod numbers that are recorded as part of the voting information each season.
I’m not sure there’s a really solid OC argument for the Civil Service not publishing numbers IC either. Any ‘my nations bigger than your nation’ stuff is going to be happening anyway. The best argument I can think of is that PD wouldn’t want pages of forum discussions on ‘Why is nation X losing players?’ on the basis of random fluctuations, but I trust the moderators to put a stop to any silliness.
