Is a noble house willing to take a knight

I’m creating a noble Questing Knight but I will need a noble house to serve. Are there any takers?

You could look for one as your first quest. You can also start with a made-up house that doesn’t attend Anvil.

Clarification:

A Knight Errant is one trying for Nobility. Maybe they have a Test of Mettle they’re working on already, maybe they are seeking a suitable House to join to give them such a Test.

A Questing Knight has already completed their Test, but not joined a House. Maybe they are part of some small House that does not come to Anvil, myabe they are part of a Questing Order, maybe they are alone.

Now, you CAN turn up looking for a Questing Order to serve, or even a House to just hang around with on the field, somewhere to store your gear and put your feet up while at Anvil. Or you can be looking for a House to join… in which case they may set you another Test…or adopt you on the spot (unlikely).

The Nobility of Houses are adoptive family, even if related by blood. They’ve earned their place there by deed.

If you are wandering around looking for a House worthy of YOUR service… then that is a great reason to wander Anvil.

On an out-of-character note, I’d advise finding some folks to hang with, just to have a starting position on the field.

So what exactly are you after?

I know a knight serves a noble house. I just didn’t know whether it made the best story to be from a minor current house, a house not in anvil or served a noble house that doesn’t exist anymore.

The advice is never to put yourself into any player made group without asking, and being granted permission, first

(And never tie yourself to a PD group, as those are plot macguffins)

Coming in as either a roaming person looking for a group, or “the last of the line,” or just starting your own from scratch are all valid approaches for first time play

What do you want to play story wise?

Someone looking to prove themself? Someone seeking a place to be? Someone looking to grown their group?

Really I’m trying to be a knight searching for a new purpose. I just don’t know how best to write that in a backstory.

Rock up to Anvil and slam yourself into plot that interests you without glossing it in your backstory

You’re not going to have a pop quiz on who your character is and, honestly, someone who’s new to Anvil won’t have the equivalency of a job interview every time they interact with someone

You’ve got your motivation (“seeking new purpose”) and a rough idea of who your character is (“questing knight”)

That’s pretty much a solid start

Throw in which territory they’re from and you’re cooking with gas.

You don’t need a novel length backstory…hells, I know characters in play who didn’t have a backstory until about two years in play

You just need a character motivation, a rough idea of character role/archetype, and where they’re from

Everything else can develop in play as you learn more of the setting and more of who this other person is

I have decided that before my travels, Ser Galahad, my character, was born In Astolat, in the region of “The Chase” In the town of “Laroc”, in the shadow of its famous tournament ground. Basically he grew up watching knights in tournaments.
He went travelling in search of Glory and has returned to Anvil in search of a new challenge.

And that’s enough, to be honest.

And having arrived at Anvil, you can visit the Houses there, see what they’re like, watch or try a tournament or two… and see where you want to go from there

I think its best to be really relaxed, interactive and completely open minded.
I think it would be more fun to let my character’s story unfold, evolve, develop naturally and organically.
