Hello people,
New to Empire and considering a bow for my character.
Any advice on what is generally the best value for money?
Also does anyone have one for sale?
Thanks

go looking at traders on the event and get a feel of your weapon.
I prefer horse bows they are a lot better in my opinion due to the shortness but also retain the power in the limbs and same draw weight through unlike the longbow, the other thing is they look awesome. Depends on who your joining, it wouldn’t look right in the marches or highguard. In urizen and Navarr looks awesome. many navarr have them
My standard bow suggestion is the absolutely fantastic Rolan Snake Bow, £40 from Quicks. I have not met a bow on the field ever that will outshoot one reliably. You can also get leather covered ones from a few of the traders - mine was bought from Tallows - but that’ll push the price up rather.
They don’t look amazing, but they’re pretty inoffensive, easy to dress, and epically good if you want a recurve type.
The main cost for archery is by far arrows, though. Twisted Flax probably make the best ones currently available on the field, for range, style, and value. They also do a rather nice line in rattan longbows at reasonable prices (iirc the £80 sort of range), which have the nice feature of actually looking like a proper warbow, not a little toy.
It’s probably not very community of me, but I’d second the Quicks option. But I’d say go to an archery shop and they will properly size and fit the bow as you like - for you - and ensure that the draw length and poundage is correct.
It’s a bit stating the obvious, but draw length plays a massive part on poundage - if I pull your bow it may well have completely different results as to when you pull it!
Thank you for the advice.
Seeing as my first event will be E3 I think I will just take extra cash and see if a can try 2/3 different options.
Who knew starting a character could open so many options.
Look forward to shooting you all soon
