Ok I know this is kinda IC, but at the first event it’ll be tough to get this organised so I really want to get things moving.
IC I’m Ceris and at the last solstice I was given the role by the Generals of ‘lead battlefield messenger’ - or words to that effect.
I am seeking people willing to answer the call of ‘runner’ or ‘messenger’ within the battle field to help improve our co-ordination between our forces and our allies. Being a messenger is 100% a secondary role to whatever you normally do but certain battlefield roles are better suited to it than others, and in some battle situations your primary role may at a point in battle prevent you from answering the call.
For example I am a magical healer so my primary role is keeping our forces alive, but if we have a number of healers near me and/or are simply not being pressured, then I am free to pass a message on - and did so on a couple of occasions during the major battle at the last solstice. As such healers can definitely take on this role as a secondary one to their primary role.
Scouts can also, by definition part of their group will be messengers anyway as they return to the main force with important intelligence, once they return, unless they are needed for further scout duties, they are ideally suited as messengers.
Vates and priests are also ideal as they provide a support role generally rather than being directly front line and thus can disengage from combat without putting a hole in any ‘line’.
Front line fighters are generally not suited to this role as their absence weakens our combat ability the most and they are most likely to be engaged by the enemy or preparing to engage.
If you are interested in taking on this role, then please let me or one of the generals know. If the main battle was anything to go by throughout a battle messengers probably will be required no more than half a dozen times, so especially if we have several, most battles you might send one message or none at all.
Awsome that’s 3 who have shown interest. I will be organising a meeting via IC posters for everyone but glad I’m getting the ball rolling. Hopefully do the meeting Friday evening after I finish on the gate (I’m gate crew).
You may be underestimating how often a messenger is needed in the multi-nation skirmishes and battle, my experiance has been that the majority of my time has been spent running messages between various generals rather than scouting. Our skirmish at event 3 I mostly ran messages and the open field battle in particular at the last event had me running messages non-stop between the Marches and Wintermarks leaders as well as our own.
I was personally approaching our own generals as well as those of other nations that know me and trying to push for an Empire wide battlefield messenger organistion.
Yes I might be - but please ask me again IC (sorry - will have to chat with people - including my new found general friends in other nations - before deciding.)

The idea of this all came from a combination of the massive battle at E4 and my applying for General at the same. In that battle, I was the only one sending messages - but it was very adhoc due to the impromptu nature of it.
Sounds like you should definitely attend the first meeting because your thinking on the same wavelength as me
I put up my thoughts and experiences with being a runner up somewhere in the general discussion thread.
Ultimately I think any attempt to get messaging under control is valuable and worthwhile.
However I dont think it can be just a single nation thing because no matter how many navarri sign up for the job, how fast they run and how clear they speak, unless the League or Orc general who they run to for example knows who they are and trust what they say then it will fall flat.
To me that means not just getting a few good Navarri together and seeing what we can do but also walking up to the generals getting into their meeting and explaining to every military leader what they need is an empire wide group of messengers and why.
Posters are unlikely mostly because we have no where to put them up in the camp where all people will see them.
However if all works well the important information of when and where things will be happening will be passed out at the Standings and afterward someone is very likely to be going around the camp asking for volunteers so no one should be missed.
Stick them in up public places like all the bars, on the wall of the Senate and similar. I also had quite a lot of success by paying a loud person to be a town crier when organising a meeting .
The Senate wall has been sprouting more posters with every event, there is also an ‘empire citizens’ cork board in the Hub.
I’d ask before sticking them up in the private bars, and bring… safety pins ? ties of some sort? as they generally don’t have walls as such.*
*reinforced holes and leather thonging would look good.
