Just looking for hints/tips from anyone with more make-up experience than me (ie: any!) I am guessing the scale effect is done with fishnet material stretched over the face but what make up is best? Does Snazz work or do I need something a bit more specialised?
Snazz did me just fine (until the end when it got a bit old and didn’t apply properly). I’ve heard nice things about PAX.
Buying a proper make up fixer rather than hair spray was expensive but worth it.
interested in this thread… my daughters new character will be Naga (she’s 11)
what colours work best? Im thinking if its too green/blue people will confuse it for Merrow - as there doesn’t seem to be much between the two lineages without going OTT with prosthetics
I personally favour Paradise makeup, which is remarkably lovely on skin. The light tones don’t have the best coverage, though.
The super-cheaty hack for making scales easily is to get a bit of fishnet and an embroidery hoop. Stretch the first across the second, and then just press it over your face where you want to apply scales. Always let the base-colour dry properly first.
Blue naga scales can be confused for a merrow. I recommend teaching your daughter to hiss angrily at anyone who gets it wrong.
facebook.com/groups/1667056 … 3/?fref=ts is the Facebook group for Naga, where people tend to post their make-up / prosthetic tests etc; I highly recommend joining it for indepth discussion on techniques (most of the lineages tend to have a group somewhere).
The question of whether blue scales are confusing came up there recently;’ the general consensus seems to be that if they’re well-defined they look naga-ish while mottling is more merrow, but your mileage may vary and some confusion is probably inevitable unless you’ve got prosthetics (my previous blue-scaled character wore Mandala’s gecko mask, which made it pretty clear she was more snake than fish).
I use a snazz with a base layer of nicer make-up. (grimas water based), which helps the snazz stay on, and is nicer on the skin.
Upside is it’s easy to do, and doesn’t require much specialist stuff.
Downsides are you need to do it every morning, and I’m constantly worried they’re smudged.
