Hi, going to my first event soon and I’d like to join the nation of navarr. I wanted to ask a few questions to help me with my costume!
I have a costume in mind, woodland elf colors and worn out fabrics. Can I wear a white wig? I have a long white one I’d probably tie back into a plait and pair it with some elf ears. Would it be odd to have white hair?
Anyone from any Nation (sans orcs, but that’s a special case) can have any colour hair
Blue tends to be more common in merrow, as a lineage trapping, but I’ve seen all sorts of non-merrow with some blue tinting
On a pure practicality level, wigs have a tendency towards being very warm and can get itchy.
(Tone neutral, explorative) Are you prepared to spen 12+ hours in one during all manner of weather? Also, consider that you will have whatever other lineage trappings (assuming changeling with elf ears) and tattoos you have on?
EDIT:
Apologies if the above sounds sharper than intended.
There’s lots of folks in field who do wig up for assorted reasons (including some very clever cambion and changeling phys reps where the horns/antlers are sewn into the wig to make them look “natural” to the hair)
The folks who do wig up do also usually have one of two things they say about doing so;
It’s bloody warm.
Not too much of an issue at E1 and E4, but we’ve had a few years of absolute broiling E2/E3, which does mean you need to be super on hydrating/keeping an eye on how warm you’re feeling
Looking after them can be a right 'mare.
Like, we’re talking “wash after every event, dry careful, swear at weft loss when it happens” nightmare
Costume sounds pretty good. The Navarr are not wood elves, but a slightly faded version of that aesthetic generally fits pretty well.
In terms of hair colour, pretty much anything goes (Although a Navarri might also have a hood or hair scarf to avoid being too obvious in the woods).
White with pointy ears does point towards Changeling as a starting lineage:
You’re not human, you’re human + some magic from the Realm of Summer (link below). Starting as a Lineaged is not what I’d suggest for a first event, but if you’re fine with it, go for it!
Happy to answer any further questions on any subject
