So I attended my first ever Empire event at E1 2025, which was also my first ever time LARPing!
I had a pretty decent time, but I’ve left feeling like I didn’t quite get as much out of it as I hoped. I joined Varushka with my OC cousin for convenience, since initially the idea was that we’d stick together to get into the game, but we ended up splitting off pretty much immediately ![]()
I did have a few very fun roleplay moments with a few people, and I also tried the hospital game which I greatly enjoyed. However, whenever the hospital wasn’t open during the big battles on Saturday and Sunday, I found myself feeling pretty lost and bored, sadly.
The players in Varushka were all great and very welcoming (the enthusiasm about them gaining another army on Sunday was intoxicating!), but honestly it wasn’t the nation that called to me when I first started looking into Empire, it was more my cousin’s thing, and I don’t feel enthusiastic about playing a Varushkan character at my next event.
My question is whether PD allows players to retire a character after one event, and if that would get rid of the XP I gained from E1? Since my cousin is off doing her own thing, I want to go with my first choice which was Urizen. I’d like to get into the magic game, and I’m especially curious about how the Urizeni approach magic as a kind of ‘science’ that can be experimented with and refined.
I’m aware that you can also have your current character change nations in-game, which I’d be totally down to do instead of retiring mine if I weren’t apprehensive about the RP responsibilities of that. I’m happy to be given challenges and tasks to prove myself, but I haven’t really made any solid IC or OC connections yet so I’m worried I might just fail since I don’t exactly have a ‘group’ in either Urizen or Varushka who could support me/point me in the right direction.
How does joining Urizen from another nation usually work? Can I do it so soon? And are there any Urizen folks here that might have a spire open to having another member?
