New Player lot's of questions

I’d prefer “Get in contact during the season”
(Since there is IC 3 months between every event as they happen on the solstices and equinoxes)

And quietly right down email address/FB name I think is both true and less problematic than awkwardly trying to semi-refer non-existent things.
Some people would be fine with a reference to “book of faces” on the field, other people might find it worse than just discretely dropping OC. Different LARPers have different tastes.

IC/OOC camping varies with nation IMHO. I could cope with ooc camping when I was in Dawn as that is right next to the ooc field (as is the League, and Navarr isn’t far away), but not now I’m in Wintermark. However, someone with fewer accessibility needs would probably manage. Wintermark is big and I’m in the bit far away from the ooc field, is there still a no cars allowed ooc camping field closer?

If you do camp IC, Oz Mills is the Wintermark camp planner.

Four of you makes a nice mini group. Feel free to contact people to try to set up links but I think you could find a bigger group in play, with the fallback of each other’s company if you don’t.

Okay, that’s useful see one of the reasons that we wanted to do IC camping is so that the guy who wants to be a trader doesn’t have to keep walking between the OOC camp and IC camp to get goods. We also had quite a lot of IC stuff like the campfire and stuff which wouldn’t really work out if we didn’t have our tent  and a small area to sit.

We aren’t attending till next year but this info is all good to have ahead of time

If you’re all members of Wintermark, then I invite you to come and poke around my hall, were called Wyvern’s Watch we’re a group of beast slayers. We shouldn’t be hard to find as we’ll be speaking at the moot.

We will have an IC area set up where people can come over and have a chat it’s very open (don’t worry about crashing anything or being awkward just come over), you can come and speak to us and chill in our area you don’t have to join, were just trying to be accessible to new players.

If you and your mates at all feel daunted or lost at empire I’m making it part of my characters goals as a stormcrow to guide those who are “new to anvil”, whether it be finding that person you want to speak to, getting involved with those people or just a bit of general info. There are also the egregors who are PD’s official versions of the above, though they can sometimes be hard to find because they have a busy job.

One thing to note about wintermark is after the moot on Friday we all sometimes look very busy and unapproachable however that’s usually just because everyone is excited around time in, were all actually really friendly, my advice is just go up to people and talk about what you want to talk about. One thing I would recommend is to read the winds of war and fortune, thourghly, for the event, you’re attending and perhaps the ones from before the event you’re attending. These tend to be what dominates most the convo at an event, and if you hear people talking about something you missed then ask them to explain.

Finally, on the subject of camping Oz sorts it all out. If you join the Empire Larp: Wintermark FB Group he will post about it there and there will be a form for you to fill in with the details of your tents.

If you want any more info then just give me a PM.

Personally, I really dislike when people refer to the book of faces during an ic conversation. It’s literally the same as just talking about Facebook as far as I’m concerned. I much prefer (as someone else said further up) something like “get in contact with me during the season”. Though I am just one person in a field of over 1000, I’m sure plenty of people don’t mind it.

I will admit that I do find it slightly jarring, but I picked it up from hearing it. I think I’ve only used it once or twice and the conversation had already dropped to extremely thinly-veiled OC, so… YMMV, I guess?

Thanks this is really nice!
We won’t be joining until next year as we want to get all our outfits ready without rushing. I may drop you a pm nearer the time just to check this offer still stands

To be honest everything is slightly daunting at the moment and it’s a lot of information to read but thanks we will make sure to read through those!

I do like the idea better of just sneaking an email on to a card to give people and saying they can contact you out of season.
Seems a bit more IC

“Shall I write down how you can contact me this season?”

[Character name]
[Character’s IC address (e.g. Mora, Feroz)]
[reason for contacting my character]
[email address]

This tends to cover all bases for me as I try not to add too many LRPers as Facebook friends. I much prefer email, everything gets lost in Facebook chat. Previous characters have had their own email accounts as well.

Nothing like a good scroll of parchment sent by raven though

You’re perfectly welcome to PM me anytime even if it’s not a question related to the group, as a said I aim to be here for the newbies.

And it’s good that you’re waiting till you’ve sorted your kit. I know it can all seem overwhelming but you’re almost guaranteed to love it whilst your there.

One thing is just be prepared for any unpleasant weather as poor prep for that can put a real downer on your event.

I have previously given out my email and IC name written on a scrap of paper, and also said that I will send a letter/winged messenger during the season/before the next Anvil meet.

I’m used to camping in bad weather so atleast have a lot of warm gear and a lot of cloaks as they seem to be my go to item when camping in the cold or rain. Have been telling the rest to make sure to get warm clothes and blankets though!

They are all even more excited now about attending next year after seeing how friendly everyone is on this forum

That seems to be the best way of going about it with out breaking character to be honest so thanks
I probably will just do the same if people ask and say they can send a letter to my address
