Hi fellow Urizen’s,
Hope you are doing well despite the current situation.(in game it looks bad went through the wiki)
Im new to empire & Urizen, i know its early as my first event will be Autumn Equinox.
Any advice or groups a newbie could join? (discord/Facebook) & is anyone based in the Midlands?
Many thanks
Hallo!
Welcome to Urizen! Small, tight knit (you will get to know all the IC gossip super quick if that’s your jam), and full of wonderful characters.
…and the Archmage of Night, Archmage of Winter, at least one Grandmaster, the head of the Anvil Hospital, the Imperial Warmage (to name a few, and all of them are wonderful players)…
What sort of advice are you looking for?

Trying to decide between summer magic and or skill points in artisan. Cant decide any advice?
Artisan is a longer burning game to get involved in due to IC costs of materials.
One of the folks in my group (Spire of Ember’s Wake) is playing as one…and after one event in field is realising he’s going to have to put a lot of footwork into saving/trading for materials
… hilariously, the other person in my group is currently playing the Conclave game for the Order of the Rod and Shield (and within Urizen, the Coven of Ash and Flame- the big Urizeni Summer Coven).
Magic gives you a faster in for game, but also covers a full range of politics and projects
(EDIT: do note, I play a battle physik and have got caught up in some other bits of IC politicking because of the type of character I play…so advice might be a bit slanted)

I’m a crafter in real life so was worried about being able to give advice if my character did not have those skills. Also, are changlings common place? I can be very energetic and thought this would be a good way to help create a narative for why I may be a little me hyper than most in the nation.
Changelings are super common as a Lineage in play, but tend less towards ‘but now I must nyooooom!’ as an RP trait and more towards ‘Of course I’m Right, I am Majestic’
(The player in group who’s a Summer ritualist is a Changeling. They’re more towards the majestic and easy to anger side of the Changeling RP cues, but I’ve seen some amazing ‘fearless and majestic’ from them)
RP cue wise, the constant need for movement, etc tends to more be associated with Briars…but I know that there can be some RP options there which make newer players a bit leery of playing the Lineage. (said with the bias of a player who jumped in as an Urizeni Briar with Very Big IC opinions about their Lineage and how it interacts with everything)

Hi, I’m not in Urizen but I hope you won’t mind me chiming in.
On facebook there are official PD-run groups, most useful are likely to be
- Empire LRP
- Empire LRP: Urizen
- Empire LRP: New Player Support
There’s also an unofficial Discord server. I think there’s a perma-link floating around these forum somewhere but the fastest way to find it may be to look for the YouTube channel, Hefty Yeti (who hosts the server) and use the link in the channel info.
On skills:
If it helps your decision, the Artisan skill relates to crafting enchanted items with magical materials so it’s perfectly reasonable for a character to be a mundane crafter without the skill point investment. You just may not know your irridescent gloaming from your dragonbone.
Another way of looking at it is that every character is able to drop one skill spend after each event attended, so you have the option of starting with Artisan and giving it a go without being trapped with the points investment if you decide it’s not bringing you fun further down the line. PD are also usually (always, I think?) willing to let a new player change any or all of their skill point spend for their first few events, as they find their feet in the game.
Do you have a preferred personal resource already? Most ritualists and artisans I’ve encountered insist on the customer providing the resources for the spell or item in additionto payment, so any personal resource is a viable choice but a forest or mine for crafting materials or a mana site could save you some trading effort. Mana is also used at Conclave to buy speaking time there, should you wish to get involved with the political side of magic.
