The recent announcements of suggestions to get into plot got me thinking about “ways to play”. They mostly come from a “how to get involved in plot” aspect - but those aren’t the only ways to play Empire, or the only ways to have fun.
Here’s a few I’ve seen or know people who like this way of playing:
Like fighting and battles and want to get as much LARP fighting as possible.
Enjoy politics and want to play a leader character.
Enjoy politics and want to play a power behind the throne or manipulator.
Likes playing a character with their friends for the weekend.
Loves LARP setting and the immersive experience Empire can be, so plays a character intended to “fill out the world” based on a passing phrase in the wiki.
Loves medical roleplay, both the problem solving aspects and the patient care aspect.
Loves religious debate
Likes trading and making money
Really likes being a support character for a friend who is taking the lead in a thing.
So, just brainstorming, can anyone else think of other ways of having fun at Empire?
Buyer beware note - some of these ways may not be the primary way it was intended to enjoy Empire. Much fun is made by players, and Empire is simply an excellent vehicle and context for it.
I want to do this Thing. It may not be possible, or sensible, or sane, or even possible within the rules. But I want to do it. So I’m going to work towards it.
Reasonable examples:
I want to collect and catalogue every sigil and symbol at Anvil
I want to fight against every single orc nation in setting, including the Imperial Orcs, if that means going on crazy quests and skirmishes round the clock.
Silly examples:
I want to get the Empire to fund my marine circumnavigation of the world
I want to get into a romantic relationship with 2 Summer Eternals at the same time.
“…and that’s just nuts” examples:
I wish to establish a new religeon based around myself and my deeds and convert the Empire to it.
I want to kill all the Eternals, personally, in alphabetical order.
This sort of thing may not lead to success, or a long-lived character, but they’ll probably give you something to do, and be quite a lot of fun…
Loves music and song, performing plays, reciting poetry, or crafting/art-ing while IC
Enjoys cooking over fires and the general historical nature of being under canvas, without actually having to do re-enactment as long as it fits the setting
Makes IC friends and enjoys the nature of developing IC friendships
Wants to be part of dramatic magical or religious rituals
