Out of Character Camping

Hi all,
I am currently planning a trip to Empire for a group from Uni of Sheffield and was wondering how out of character camping works. Is there any way we could guarantee that our group could camp together? Most of our members will be first time LARPers and may feel more comfortable camping together will people they already know but will likely be traveling separately and won’t arrive together.
Thanks in advance,
Ginger

Welcome along, Gingersnap21, to the game and these forums

Out of character camping is definately a good idea for a first-time group. You can’t really pick out and reserve a plot for a block of tents, but the OOC camping areas are quite large. Some of the OOC camping areas are next to IC nations, so if you’re playing together you could grab a spot there. If you’re a mix of nations, it’ll be a little trickier, but there’s a large field for that too.

I’d advise arriving on site ASAP with a good idea of what tents and how big will be coming. Cars etc can be moved, to make room. There will be MANY folk wanting to grab any spare space, so you may have to “reserve” your camp pitch when you’re there. By having someone there, leaving a car over the spot till the last minute, little flags maybe…?

I’ll see if I can get clarification. What sort of numbers, what nations, any with special access needs?

ill be coming with a small group of people - whats the earliest we can arrive on the thursday?

About 1pm I think.

Wake is correct here. From the wiki:

Although there is no role-playing before time-in on Friday, you are very welcome to arrive early to begin setting up your camp. The bar will be open on Thursday evening and our caterers will be aiming to provide hot food. Please enjoy this opportunity to socialize out-of-character.

“The earliest that you can arrive is 1:00 pm on the Thursday before each event. Please note that the arrival time is two hours later than last year - as we need the additional time to finish site preparations before players arrive.
There is an additional charge of £10 for anyone who stays on site on Thursday night that must be paid on the gate in cash only.”

So lunch en-route, and setting up camp and exploring in the afternoon. Gentle way to start the event
