If you were thinking of using a quarterstaff as a weapon at Empire, without the intention of using it as a magic implement or even taking any magic skills, which category of weapon would it fall under?
How would hero calls work with the weapon?

Staffs are basically a mage thing: you should ideally take battlemage to use one.
I seem to recall that we have a general ruling allowing a quarterstaff to be used with weapon master, for basic damage only. It cannot be used with Mighty Strikedown/Empower/etc. Email if you want a solid clarification on that.
