Hi everyone.
We’re currently hard at work on the winds of war and the winds of fortune, but I wanted to take this opportunity to let folks know about a small rules update and to remind everyone on the restrictions on filming at events.
The rules on filming and photography can be found here: https://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/empire-wiki/Photography
Broadly it is ok to take photos at events, but you must honour any take-down requests for any photos you publish. If someone doesn’t want to appear in your photo then we insist that you respect that.
Don’t stage shots during time-in. This is a live roleplaying event, not a convention! It is ok for participants to do staged shots before the event starts - but once the game begins it is very disruptive to other players to stage a photograph in the IC area. And it’s completely unacceptable to ask strangers to pose for a photo - some won’t mind - but some will. So please don’t do it.
Do everything possible to be as unobtrusive about your photography as possible. Remember that this is a live roleplaying event - people are here to live roleplay. You must respect that and take all reasonable steps to be discreet and stay out of people’s eyesight when taking a photo.
Filming in the IC area is generally banned at events. We appreciate that many folk are accustomed to using their mobile phone to film things these days - but you can’t do that at Empire! We want our game to remain live - to be something people experience in the field - not on youtube! More importantly it’s about respecting people’s privacy - lots of people don’t want to be filmed - and you must respect that. You can use a phone to take a photo - but not to film. For this reason, it’s often better to avoid taking long panoramic photographs since they can look like filming which will upset people nearby.
Rules change - we’ve changed the rules so that you can’t make audio recordings on the field. Ultimately we decided that audio-recording is more like filming than photography, so we have changed it to make it covered by the same rules. Lots of people don’t want to think they might be recorded while roleplaying at the events and we want to respect that.
As ever, please send any feedback or question to feedback@profounddecisions.co.uk
