Hey everyone!
I had a fantastic time at Empire this year. So much so that me and some friends are thinking of camping IC next event! I’ve seen that there have been some rules in regards to having oxford canvas bell tents for future events.
With that in mind, does anyone have any suitable bell tent recommendations for us? (We’re Dawnish so they’d need to be suitable for the Dawn camp)

To address your last point first, I can’t think of any tent suitable for IC camping that wouldn’t be suitable in Dawn. Some are more on brand than others, but much as with costume, tentage is aspirational!
First question - have you set your heart on a bell, or are you just after an IC tent generally? Bells are sturdy and easy to source which means they’re very popular, but they do have some drawbacks, the biggest one being the relatively low door height. If you want to use your tent as an IC social space as well as for sleeping, have a look into touareg tents, tucana/Dutch pyramid tents, and big scout patrol tents. These all have more-or-less full height doors, which makes them much easier to get in and out of and easier to see/speak to people passing.
Alternatively, it’s very easy to rig an awning on the front of a standard bell to make a sheltered porch area. Budget for one of these if you can, it’s incredibly useful to have that extra space for muddy boots, bulky shields and armour, and generally hanging out to see and be seen.
I have wandered off the point entirely.
This is a good time of year for picking up a used bell tent, as a lot of glamping/festival hire companies sell off tents after two or three seasons. Avoid anything marketed as very light - I’d stick to 200gsm and above - or where the main canvas is significantly more synthetic fibre than natural. The big problem with so called Oxford canvas is that it’s a fully synthetic material, and it looks it. Also to be avoided is anything that’s too much of a bargain. Ideally view in person and watch out for mould and damage around peg-holes/guys - neither are dealbreakers but will need to be addressed so factor that time/money/labour into what you’re prepared to pay.
