Quick question about when people use calls against you. The skills say that you have to roleplay in certain ways for calls. (e.g. A heroic blow might be bold and dramatic and accompanied by a mighty roar, while a magic call might involve an arcane flourish and a quick invocation.)
If you are fighting and people are repeatedly prodding at you with their weapons, and then when it connects they shout the call, how would you respond to that?
Depends on the call
And note, these are very broad suggestions of RP in terms of everything…except when the statement is “ass to grass.” That’s non-negotiable.
Strikedown your ass hits the grass and spend ten seconds getting back up
For Strikedown, please check behind you if line fighting so you don’t smoosh the people behind you.
This call is slightly terrifying for folks who fight in the second rank in line battles because people just throw themselves back for the big dramatic RP..and if someone who’s in plate and/or maille does that and falls onto me, in my leather armour? Well, it’s not going to end well for me.
Cleave/Impale, clutch the offending limb, stop using it…and if in foot or leg, ass to grass and cry for a physick. Or if chest, ass to grass and yell bloody murder for a physick to get you back up
Stay With Me/Get it together, RP getting back up as person fixes limb, gets your ass back up
Witnessing an Unstoppable or Relentless…panic or congratulate depending on if it’s an ally or foe
And then, if magical calls?
Repel? Ten Very Big Steps Back
Paralyse? Ten seconds where you should probably be yelling for help
Entangle? Ten seconds of yelling that you’re stuck
Weakness? “I don’t feel too good” and then not being able to use hero calls, magic, or priest skills
Venom? Cough, splutter, make comment that you feel nauseous. Your character bleeds out faster (30 seconds, rather than 3 mins at base)
Ten seconds tends to be the usual count in play…and it’s been a “take knee and count to ten” call that I’ve seen when events (largely player events) have been too muddy/slick on the ground for ass to grass to be safe and sane
It also, usually, takes about ten seconds for someone to get up if they’ve been struck with Strikedown and are in the churn and are armoured
I think you misunderstood my question. I’m not asking how to roleplay when hit by a move. What I’m asking about is the trigger. If the ATTACKER is meant to do roleplay for their special skill, but they just wait until they land a hit to call the skill with no other roleplay, how would you react? Would you roleplay as if the skill has been used, or ignore the effects?
As Squeak says, if you hear the call, take the effect. Battle is crazy and often you won’t be aware of much but the person in front of you. If someone to your left has spent 5 seconds roaring and RPing, chances are you won’t realise until they hit you and shout STRIKEDOWN!
