Hello, the Winter Solstice will be my first LARP event and I have seen that you can buy weapons at Empire.
I would like to know how much a starter sword, or any other starting weapon, normally costs.
Thank you.

The answer, alas, is “it depends what you’re after”.
Below is a link to Having a Larp, a trader usually at the events, with a range of swords displayed. As you can see, they go from £30 to £125…
There are usually at least a dozen traders selling weapons on-site (and for many reasons, I advise buying weapons on-site). Prices will vary, styles will vary.
I think that if you allocate ÂŁ50 or so for a sword, you should be able to get your pick of some good ones, although bargains are available sometimes.
You may well, depending on which Nation* you’re playing in, be able to borrow a weapon or two for your first event. Or hire it. Or even buy it 2nd hand. There are MANY veteran gamers with a pile of weapons they don’t use much, who bring a spare (or two) to Empire. You’ve got the time to ask around (on Facebook or here), and we generally like helping out new players.
*(the bigger and more martial nations may have more spares)
Hullo,
Seconding the above
However, I will say that if you’re looking larger weapons (two handers, good stab safe spears, billhooks), you’re going to run a bit more expensive
My sword (sold as a short sword, but I am v short and spend a lot of time in combat going from standing to being on one knee because of playing physick, so hate tripping up on a waist sheathed weapon) was about ÂŁ60.
However, it’s from Light Armouries, which is one of the slightly pricier makers in field. He’s one of my favoured makers as he seems to a figured the trick of making the weapons have a /little/ bit more weight to them- about the same weight as a sport fencing epee.
My “fancy” short sword, which I find too light for actual combat, was £50 from Epic Armouries. It’s very pretty, very sparkly, and looks like it’s been carved from crystal.
(Epic has some very fun swords, I just don’t click with the lack of weight to them)
