Mighty Ox, I am called that in another game, random fact there
I dread to think what else you bring with you, do you have an IC Tent? And do you arrive with a HGV?
I will freely admit, I cheat. Iām the driver of the Cambridge Kitvan, so I bring a VW Transporter loaded with various people from Cambridgeās kit to site (so that they can take public transport or car-share without having to lug all their kit with them). We have an IC tent, yes - weāre a Navarri Wayhouse, so a reasonable amount of canvas.
I see a reasonable amount of hand sanitiser upthread, incidentally, so standard announcement: itās much, much better than nothing but most types of hand sanitiser wonāt kill viruses. Certain types do, otherwise thereās no substitute for soap and water. There should be soap at most of the standpipes (thanks, redcap Ben) - if there isnāt, one of the site crew can probably rustle some up and/or point you somewhere there is some.
Pretty cool idea, I have an IC tent but rarely use it these days as cant get on a motorbike. I also note most people seem to carry a tankard, is this a wise investment?
Many will say yes, and I agree with them - itās much harder to accidentally catch the illness someone else is incubating if youāre drinking from a different mug from them and, at hot events, itās easy to get a drink from a standpipe whenever you want one. Do⦠remember to wash it occasionally, though. Not that Iāve ever done that, no⦠
Another item for the list! Although in my job its not uncommon to encounter people sneezing or coughing in my face
Some of the bars have tankards but some have had to stop lending them out as theyād go walkies and never return. And as singnaturefish says, easier to avoid catching something, plus you know whatās been in it beforehand.
Turns out quite a bit
1 satchel with lots of IC books and papers.
Pouch with IC money
Pouch for smoking stuff
Belt pouch for OOC stuff for easy access
Axe
Dagger
Tankard
Water/Booze depends what time of day
Sometimes Children.
I play in the league as a mercenary so I carry on my belt:1 large pouch, sword and knife scabbards, eating knife, Tankard on a strap. Also carry one haversack. Pouch had OC wallet, IC money, emergency potion, pencil. My haversack has my drās tools, herbs and potions. A couple small notebooks and a water bottle. I will be adding at least a large pouch and maybe a medium for pouch for OC stuff, at next event. I will also be adding a load of small cloth bags for my haversack. To store my herbs, resources (I do a lot of trading for my group) etc. I love my little canvas haversack. Its incredibly useful.
@MattR these children, where do you find them? What do you do with them? And is I bet that adds a fair amount of weight to your belt
@Phoenix They only weigh about the same as a suit of chainmail. I use my pouch like a hipster. Itās really hard to drink a pint and carry them at the same time.
Well thereās your mistake. Reclassify them as āpagesā or āsquiresā for martial characters, maybe āapprenticesā or āneonatesā for other roles, then get them to carry the beer as part of their ātrainingā under you. Itās good roleplaying experienceā¦
The other trick Iāve seen is: get a large-ish IC tankard and a bunch of cheap plastic glasses, use plastic glasses as inserts for the tankard which means you can toss them after a few drinks and replace them.
Iād likely end up spilling it down me!![]()
On a slightly related note, does anyone know of a halberd or great sword carrying strap? Something I can use to hang a weapon from so I can swap to it?
Darkblade have done some good backscabbards for greatswords in the past. Iāve seen people add leather straps to halberds and carry them on their backs (obviously take them off before going onto the battlefield).
Ok, thats awesome, and just what im looking for. I shall pop in next event.
Might be worth emailing and checking they have some in stock for next event. Sometimes they donāt bring certain items to events.
I shall. I will want to check my sword fits before buying.
Failing that there are plenty of leather workers who can make one pretty cheaply.
