Newbie here. Could you post pictures of your poppets please, so I can get an idea of what to be aiming for?
- don’t worry about the white ribbon, that’s something it acquired in play.
I’ve also seen them made out of spoons, squares of cloth, raffia, wooden pegs and there’s an excellent little narrative on https://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/empire-wiki/The_Marches_hearth_magic from Nesta (who I hope to see in the field again one day).
See something like:
My PC tends to make them out of a ball of wool if he’s particularly freaked out by spooky stuff, so I learned to quickly make them by running the wool around my hand. (And this probably means the spooky stuff is very spooky as I play a necromancer )
Thank you. So it needs to look rustic and vaguely doll like?
Yeah, they’re effigies meant to represent a person. It’s a running theme in marcher hearth magic and religion. Poppets, standing stones, the wicker man. They’re all human-shaped or face-shaped.
Thanks. I’ve bought some dolly pegs to turn into poppets, we’ll see how that goes!
Perfect . Show us a picture when you’re done
