Ilium, mithril, white granite and weirwood

More seriously, there’s a market for almost anything, but you have to find it, and you have to remember that while you might get lucky and make thrones that way, you’ll have to work hard for them. If you want to make the big bucks in-game, you need to engage with the game mechanisms for doing it, and that means bourse materials and to a lesser extent ministries.

That said, you can make a fair amount of coin peddling, and it’s a great way to stimulate roleplay and make for a richer game.

Food and drink are always popular, but the market is pretty saturated for cake, biscuits and sweets. You’ll need to make a proper effort with your product, your presentation and/or your marketing to make a splash. Hot food/full meals are rarer but require a lot more OC organisation and outlay.

Trinket, pamphlets and useful doo-dads all sell. Again, the market for things like jewellery, little pouches, pamphlets which summarise or draw together information publicly available from the Wiki, fake flowers, homemade alcohol is pretty full, and to be a roaring success you need a product which is either really good or else a little more unusual.

There are a number of IC newspapers and other periodicals in the field, some of which pay people to peddle them. There are also things like IC almanacs, quick reference guides and digests (for identifying things like potions, and magic items; calculating rings and crowns; lists of rituals with costs), market-going-rate lists that get updated each event and so on.

IC games like raffles, lucky dips, name the [whatever], and quasi-games like the find-a-Nemesis board are fairly popular.

Whatever you’re selling, remember it’s going to cost you in real life, whether in time, money or energy. Printing pamphlets in 50s and baking 4-5 trays of cake gets real-life time-money-effort intensive fairly quickly.

As noted above, you can divide stuff to sell at Empire all manner of profitable ways.

Classicly, goods vs services.

Goods:
Bourse resources (Ilium, mithril, white granite and weirwood). Very difficult to get hold of, go for multiple thrones each.

Personal resources (metals, woods, herbs liao, crystal mana) Easy to get hold of in small amounts (generated by PCs), and sell for between 1/2 and 1 1/2 crowns

Made stuff: (snacks, pamphlets, booze, trinkets) Expensive in terms of OOC time/resources. Sell for anything from 1 or 2 rings (biscuits) to a throne (bottle of honey whiskey). There are a few in-game bars and tea houses running a roaring trade…

Services:
Ah, now this gets interesting! It’s possible to do well in some classic fantasy occupations, mercenary (if you have a bunch of friends willing to be a merc company with you) or as an escort (see cicisbeo in the League…).
You can deliver stuff for people around the field which requires a lot of legwork and a good idea of where to find people.
You can cast spells, make potions, organise blessings for people…
And you can even make magic items for folks…

What were you thinking of?

I’d add that although Anvil is meant to be a political summit, if you think of if like a festival you’re in the right mindset to come up with ideas of things to sell.

I don’t think there is any particular objectively right answer on this one.

Empire is a trade-led game and everyone is one way or another.
But it is a game and it should be fun.

The best thing to sell is something you enjoy selling and/or making.

As people have said, food and drink are pretty sewn up unless you have something special to offer.

But you will also see a massive range of items and skills being sold around the field. From scribes, tours, massages, games, to 3D printed coin purses that let you keep you crowns, rings and thrones separated.

You can even find odd jobs boards like the Odd Jobs board in Navarr or the Nemesis Board at McSkelly Leather.

The Bourse, and Projects that need Senate Approval is where the big money plays.
However, that is often the territory of Cartels and lots of people pooling cash and resources.

There is also the option of trying to do a deal with an eternal, but that can often have ‘Consequences’.

The important part is that it should be fun. If it’s not fun you’ll resent it and it becomes a chore no matter how much you earn from it. I know several bods who went with the ‘Business’ option but because they got stuck in one spot all weekend it got in the way of their game.

Hope you find something that fills your pocket with coin and your heart with joy.
