I am planing to come to Empire next year and am currently looking at kit. What is the stance of the Wyrmwick PU armours?
Good enough to past as metal plate or would actual metal be better?

You’re in luck…
Recently the rules on armour have changed.
Poly-plate (as that sort of thing was sometimes called), used to be classed as medium armour.
Now, it is classed as heavy armour.
What you cannot do is use the skill Dreadnought with it (which was a bonus for those people with the actual heavy metal gear).
So if you want the lightwieght stuff that looks good and will bounce arrows, that stuff should be okay (final decision with field refs).
Unless you already own metal armour or have experience with fighting in it then I wouldn’t recommend investing in it now. Poly armour will be much easier to fight in and (I think) slightly cheaper.
Dreadnaught is there to give people who want to wear metal a boost but I doubt it will fully compensate for the real world stamina needed to fight in it.
Good news, still not sure how it will look. Seen pics and seems ‘realistic’ enough.
Ordered some arm guards to judge the quality.
The big limitation with PU armour is that you can’t really get it custom-made, since it has to be moulded (and those moulds are expensive). So if you’re an unusual shape or size, you might struggle to find pieces to fit you well.
Munition grade steel plate ive found cheaper than PU, but honestly you can get a lot more exciting looks and considerably lower weight and maintenance with PU, if it fits. Which is a bit if!
Best budget option is always going to be mail, though now rivetted aluminium mail is a good option too. Then add plate over that as and when you can
Good to know about sizing issues.
I am more tempted by steel as I can understand the general quality compared to PU.
Care to share you favorite seller?
Steve Lunn at White Rose Apparel does excellent work, he made my first set of plate which was excellent and very good value. He’s usually at Empire so you can talk to him and get measured there.
Ive never found PU that fits me properly within my budget so cant really comment on that (I am built like a fantasy dwarf)
Steel wise…
Stahlgilde did most of the Shattered tower plate, though there was a bit of drop in quality in the last order that may have been a blip

Velvet Glove are a uk supplier of a bunch of the European plate makers so you can get that stuff without the Brexit fun, i tend to buy a lot of my in field armour off them ;D

Ring mesh made the best mail ive ever owned, and now butchers mail is legit heavy armour too! Like, seriously, its beautiful stuff! But from America so beware customs charges and such

Finally, for cheap mail, Indian stuff bought via ebay is ok, just as good as cheap uk made stuff but a lot cheaper. That said, you almost always get what you pay for with mail! A cheap butted shirt will be spare parts after a year without lots of work/care.
