Turning OC money into IC money

With any luck, the first person to get a 100 throne coin will do what Robin Jones did with a load of valuable coins at Maelstrom and turn it into jewellery.

Of course I will Andy.

It is slowly sinking in behind the hedge that ‘‘extravagantly wealthy’’ means ‘‘9 crowns’’

If you haven’t reported the specifics of the incident you observed to PD by email, please do.

Sometimes plot comes out into the field with resources that are supposed to end up in player hands. (For example, I know that at least one egregore has a personal resource of identical nature to a character’s personal resource). R&R characters do have personal resources, are members of groups, and could be valid targets for e.g Rivers of Gold, which might lead to them having a couple of Thrones legitimately earned on hand - they are identical to standard characters in every way, as far as I know - but this is undermined by people cheating. I don’t want a situation where R&R characters are forced to attend the field without resources.[/quote]

I don’t think anyone really objects to crew getting to hit the field with a handful of crowns but i know of one situation where a bunch of NPC’s blew several thrones on a private part to celebrate a crew members OC birthday. Now it’s great that they got drunk for free and they certainly work hard enough that they deserve the odd treat but please… suggesting that they had this money for plot reasons is just insulting! I’m not going to mention names because I don’t really care*… it puts extra cash in players pockets and rewards folks for putting a lot into the game but it’s still a little bit off that one of them was able to brag that they had wasted so much IC cash in a bar with no qualms.

  • OK, I’m lying… I was a bit pissed off when i found they had drunk all the chocolate liquor :frowning:

I think it is important to consider sadogua, and I things like how Holberg will survive a siege without cocktails

Andy, with regard to wealth, the odd thing is the wiki has stories like in the Apprentice’s Blade page which rather debunks that

The question is, do the field and the wiki match up?

waits patiently for artisans that have sold apprentice’s blades to pipe up

Pricing is an IC thing, you’ll find out on the field~

Damn, I’m not that patient!

One thing to remember when buying MIs is that they last 4 events from when they’re first brought to a field. What you’re being sold might have been to one or two before you see it… The obverse of this particular coin is that short-duration items can be had for bargain prices sometimes.

A specific piece of fiction on the wiki is just that.

The wealth of an NPC is an entirely separate matter. PC resources do not directly adjust for inflation, neither should NPCs. If an NPC just grabs a double handful of coin because IC they are rich, it utterly undermines the idea that the game is ‘‘economic’’ in nature and reinforces the NPC Pinata Perception.

I am not aware of any birthday parties funded with cash taken from the plot room.

Honestmistake might have been commenting thus:

NPCs went on to field to celebrate birthday, spending lots of coin. Saying their attendance and subsequent spending on party is Plot suitable is insulting to them.

From the sounds of it; NPCs went in with their own character’s personal resource cash and blew it all on a party, not necessarily that Plot wrote them some money to go off and have fun.

Or they did grab some coins on the fly~

It is entirely possible, after 5 events, that an “RnR character” with a Business or Farm resource, which hasn’t managed to get out on the field much would have accrued several Thrones to spend on a birthday party in IC taverns. Or an “RnR character” which has been effective out on the field might have parlayed their other resource into ready cash of that magnitude. Multiply that by “a bunch”, and you’ve got a lot of personal cash floating around looking for an outlet.

Of course, I’ve no knowledge of the incidnent Honestmistake is referring to, and the above is a generality. If you know names, Honestmistake, it’s worth getting in touch with PD about, so that honest mistakes by monster-crew can be corrected.

Let me echo what Womble said it’s difficult to respond or for PD to respond to what’s been said without knowing the details. PD have said that this isn’t what they’re aiming for so I think they’d appreciate being able to look into that and see what actually happened and see if they need to remind people or not. So please do drop PD a note about that.

I do know about one crew member’s IC birthday party, but that was paid for by his wife’s player character who’s minted in game as she’s an artisan so I doubt that’s what you’re talking about.

Thanks

While I have implied that you should tell PD if you think things are amiss, so it can be actioned, I don’t think I have said it explicitly, so I’ll throw my hat in and say: YUP! Exactly what has been said above.

If you have an issue with the game, the people to tell are PD. This is especially true on the field. Telling other players about something you don’t like just means more players talk about it. Talk to the organisers, and something can be done about it.

It prevents misinformation and rumours spreading, and it means things are done about real problems with less negative impression amongst players because a problem is known by everyone you speak to, but not known to the organisers.

I used to hate the idea of being able to buy OOC things for IC coin.

Now - I love it.

Why? Because Matt P effectively gives me an all inclusive holiday as part of my ticket.

Turning OC money into IC commodities is cool.

Beer is an IC commodity. Hob Can Drink it.
Food is an IC commodity. Hob Can Eat it.
A tent is an IC commodity. Hob can buy one and sleep in it or just rent space in one.
Etc. Etc. Etc…

Exchanging IC money for IC commodities is a core part of the game.

turning OC money into IC money is what you do by buying a ticket to the event.

If someone offers to Buy my IC coin with OC coin I will point and laugh. A lot. Very Publicly.

Five or six thrones, in fact.

(This crew members RnR character with a business hasn’t been doing very much RnRing, and only spent limited small change on the field so far.)
