Solving Puzzles at Empire (and Standard Builds)

The Orphans’ Arms is a bar in the League.
The House of Joy and Sorrow is a theatre tent in the League: it is an option for anyone (of any nation) wanting an indoor space to put on a performance (subject to negotiating a fee with the manager).

Is the Green Shield still going? I forget which nation it was in… Wintermark?

It might be an idea to go round writing reviews of as many as you can, then either sell the pamphlet regularly or just sell your reviews to an existing publication.

Oh, talking of publications/newspapers, there’s also The Torch (noteworthy for being a daily newspaper, from one of the Urizen spires) and there’s one that appears to be from the Pride assembly, and there’s another one purely about military matters, but I don’t remember the names of those two.

I believe the military publication is the roll of honour.

The Greenshields were shut down, on account of them being an assassin’s guild…

possible future Urizen here, out of curiosity what type of poker are they playing?

@Canashir, thank you. I really should start a list of newspapers as well. I would never have thought of selling reviews to a publication - what a good idea!

@Phoenix, thank you! I shall add it to the list of newspapers. Wraith33 has a question re the poker tournament at the Rings and Hammer that you may be able to answer.

@thresher, thank you. That sounds like a fascinating story. Reviewing the drinking places may be more dangerous than I thought.

@wraith33, I have no idea about the poker tournament. Phoenix appears to be the one to ask, unless other people who know would like to answer the question for you?

A big thank you to everyone who is sharing information and being helpful and just generally wonderful. Visiting Anvil is going to be so much easier with this information.

I’ve filled in some nations for you:

@Phoenix, thank you for answering the poker question.

@Canashir, thank you! I appreciate the information. I’ve edited the list above to add the nations.

Lumi’s is a tea house (the best one) not a bar

I don’t think The Torch has been published in recent years - haven’t seen a new copy in a long time (and I keep an eye out)

The Pledge does have bar and cafe reviewers. Cafe reviews have slowed down since we tasted the cakes in the Artisans Arms - they are superb and we cannot recommend highly enough!! Would also give special mention to the iced teas at the New Promise Cartel tea house - so good at hot events

There’s a teahouse that’s sometimes Freeborn and sometimes Highborn, the Gilded Leaf Teahouse.

There is also a magazine called the Outrider which looks at military stuff.

The same people who publish the Thrifty Squid have also begun producing a second seasonal publication called The Inky Depths. It can field a wide range of articles varying from economics and politics, to magic and culture, whatever the writers happen to be interested in at the time. It also contains a backlog of pricing information from all previous editions of the Thrifty Squid.

The Imperial Orcs had a bar set up just outside their camp last event. I believe it was called The Worthy Tankard.

@Beeswax, @Knave, thank you! I have added your information to the list above.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give me information about pubs, teahouses, newpapers, magazines etc. I appreciate each and every post that lets me clarify things or add to the lists.

The Pledge is a generalist newspaper. Sometimes it has reviews of places, but that’s only a minor aspect.

@Canashir, thank you. I have adjusted the description in the list above.

Not sure the Brazen Parador can claim to be the longest running bar in Anvil, as I know ‘the Hammer’ opened at the very first Empire Event (I was there, it was blasted cold), and from my knowledge has been at every single event since (in one shape or another).

However that would be an IC argument to have

I seem to remember the Brazen Paradour existing at Y1E1… We were camped opposite it, I think!
